Newt's pov

Y/n is sitting in her chair, fidgeting anxiously. Minho stands up to announce his idea for Y/n's job. He explains exactly what he did to Alby yesterday. A few of the keepers are nodding along and some are looking shocked and confused. By the time Minho's finished explaining, all the keepers look like they're bursting with questions. Alby goes around the table, letting each keeper talk. He starts with Gally, keeper of the Builders. "What will she be doing exactly?" He asks first "Will she just be in the map room looking at the patterns in maps?" He sounds bored. "Pretty much" I answer. He nods his head and casts his vote. "I say yes, if she's going to give us a bigger chance of getting out of here, then I'll take it" Y/n smiles, I know why. That's at least one keeper who approves of this weird adaptation of the job. Winston - keeper of the Slicers - is next. "Wait, why her though, can't your runners just analyse the maps at the end of the day?" He asks. "Firstly, we need more time than just when we get back, if we want to figure out what this means" Minho starts "And secondly, she's smarter than my runners. She's the one who actually saw something when she looked at the maps" He finishes. Y/n smirks at Winston at this "OK......, but I still don't know. I want to hear what the others say before I vote" Winston says. We look at Alby and he nods "Clint, you next" He says. Y/n gives me a questioning look and I mouth to her; Clint is the keeper of the Med-Jacks. She nods. "Well, Gally asked my question, so I guess I'll just say yes. Why not?" He says. Alby nods, so do I. Nice and short, thanks Clint I think. Frypan - the keeper of the cooks - goes next, and asks the most questions. "Are you sure she can't just have a normal job? Aren't we supposed to be Sloppers if we can't be anything else? Will this actually help?" I shake my head, trying to separate the questions. I answer them separately. "She can't have a normal job because she's the only girl and she can't be a Slopper for the same reason. Also, she's smart enough, so she should do this." I say. Minho takes over "And yes, this will actually help. If she can find a code or something in the maps, then we might have a good chance at getting out of here" He says. "Ok then," Frypan says "I guess I'll say yes." Alby lets the other four keepers, Minho, Zart, Billy and Dan, talk. Out of those four, only Minho says yes. Zart - the keeper of the Trac-hoes - argues that Y/n's just like the rest of us, even though she's a girl, so she should have a normal job. Billy - the keeper of the Baggers - says that even I said that Y/n has to be treated the same as us, so no. Dan - keeper of the sloppers - agrees with both of their points and also says no. Of course Alby and I say that Y/n should have this job, so majority wins out. "Y/n" Alby says, motioning for her to stand. She does and he continues "You will now be a runner, your keeper Minho. Your safety lies in his hands and you must listen to him while working" He says. Minho smirks at her and she pokes her tongue out at him. "It's official" Alby says, turning away from Y/n and to the rest of us "Y/n if a runner and will do whatever her job entails" And it's done. Like that, Alby lets everyone go and turns to Minho, Y/n and I. "You can start analysing the maps today Y/n" Alby says. "Minho, Newt, you go with her, help her. Do what she asks" Y/n smirks at us and Minho starts to protest. "Shut up Minho" Alby says "I know you're the keeper, but she's in charge." Then he turns and walks out of the room. Minho shoots Y/n a glare and she does the same. I laugh, because this 'glare-off' is hilarious. "Ok, guys, let's go" I say laughing and walking away.

Y/n's pov

We go to the map room. I look around. This is where I'm going to be spending most of my time from now on. I suddenly feel like the space is too small. "Ok" I say "You guys move the table to the corner and stack the boxes of maps up. I need more space in here. I finish "No way!" Minho says. "It's been like this since the start. You can't just come in here and change everything!" I whirl around. "I said. Move. The. Table. And Stack. The. Map. Boxes" I say it slowly and sternly and eventually he backs down and grabs one end of the table while Newt grabs the other. "I said I didn't want to be cooped up and you said 'we can work it out'. Windows can't really be opened or the maps will be blown away and I can't work outside for the same reason. So were going to make this stupid room work for me." I say as they start stacking the boxes. Newt smiles at me. "What?" I ask, a small smile spreading across my face. "Nothing" He says "I just like it when you take charge. It's cute" He finishes. I half smile, half glare at him. "Go get Gally" I tell him. "Why?" He asks. "I need to talk to him about some additional features in here" I say with a sly smile. Minho glares at me because of all the changes. "Chill, will you?" I ask. He just rolls his eyes. "What's next madam?" He says mockingly. "Um" I say thinking. "Nothing until Gally's come" He raises his eyebrows, but I don't tell him what I'm planning. "Actually" I say realising I do need something "Get me the last 10 maps from every section" I say. "But just put them in piles, in order, on the table" He starts getting them when Newt arrives with Gally. "Newt, can you help him?" I ask and he nods. "Gally, do you think we can get some shelves in here?" I ask pointing at a section of the wall. "What for?" He asks. "I want to have a shelf for each of the boxes. I don't want them on the floor. It makes it feel more cramped than it already is. Also I need the floor space to work on." I say. He nods. "Well, they're going to have to be able to hold a lot. But I think we can do it." I nod. "I'll get some of the boys down here and we can start now" I turn to him. "Really?" I ask. I suddenly feel so grateful that he was on my side of the argument earlier. "Thank you SO much Gally '' He nods and turns to go get some of the other builders. By the time I turn around, Newt and Minho have the maps in piles on the table like I asked. "Ok thanks. Gally is going to come with some builders to make the shelves. So when they're finished, the boxes need to be put on them." I say. Minho sighs but Newt comes over and hugs me. I hug him back, sighing into his shoulder. "Thanks for being so supportive" I say in his ear. He doesn't answer. I step away and see that the builders are here. "Ok, Minho, Newt, come with me please" I say over my shoulder as I walk out. They follow and I walk over to the west door. "What now?" Minho asks, sounding exasperated. "When the runners get back, Minho, I need you to get them to make the maps, then add them to the pile. Also they need to make sure they're being super accurate." I say. He just nods and I let him go, telling him he's done enough for one day. Newt and I sit down by the door, our backs pressed against the ivy covering the walls. We sit in silence for a few minutes, then he speaks. "You're really enjoying this aren't you?" A small smile creeping along his face. I smile back. "I like actually having a job to do" I pause. "Helping the glade, so it doesn't turn to klunk" I say, laughing slightly because that's similar to what he said to me when we fought. He seems to remember that and laughs too. Out of the corner of my eye I notice Gally standing in the doorway of the Map Room, trying to get our attention. I get up, pointing at Gally so Newt sees him too. We walk over to him. "What's up?" I ask him "The shelfs are constructed, they just need to be put on the walls" He says. I look at him, trying to ask with my eyes why he needed us. When he doesn't get it, I just ask the question. "So.....? Why'd you need us?" He points at the wall "I just want you to tell me where you want them" He explains. I point to the 8 places where I want them; 2 columns of 4 going up and down the wall. He gets them mounted and tests one to see if it holds. It holds, but starts bowing in the middle, so he gets one of the boys to get some extra supports. Once they're in, the shelves work really well and I get them to put the boxes on the designated shelves. Then we run into a problem; I'm too short to reach the top 2 shelves. Gally just laughs, then when I punch him - half playfully - in the arm, he just builds a small stool for me to stand on. Newt and I both thank him and he walks away. I stand in the middle of the room and turn in a small circle, looking at everything. Once I do a full circle, Newt ends up the thing I'm staring at. I don't know what comes over me but I run a few steps and jump into his arms. This surprises him and he stumbles backwards before he regains his balance. He spins me around and I kiss him. He puts me down so he can lean in and kiss me back. When we finish kissing we just stand there staring lovingly into each other's eyes. Minho walks up with the other runners in tow. He clears his throat when we don't look up. "Just go draw your maps" I say, not looking away from Newt. Minho just shoves past us and gets the runners to sit at the table and draw their maps. They finish and add them to the piles, but Newt and I are still just standing here. At some point I leant in and hugged him. Minho, apparently sick of it, interrupts us. He walks up to us and basically pulls us away from each other. "Enough of the love fest shuck faces" he says rolling his eyes. "Ok, let me have a look at these maps" I say, finally snapping out of it. I get each runner to spread the pile from their section in a line on the floor. The sheets flap around and I look around, realising the door has been left open. "Newt, can you please close the door" I ask. He does and the maps stop moving. Once I have 8 rows of maps laid out on the floor, I usher everyone but Minuo and Newt out of the room. I stare at the maps and little things start to jump out at me; a line repeated many times throughout a certain section, a line that appears in the same spot in every section on a certain day. "What do you see?" Minho asks, snapping me out of my thoughts. I roll my eyes. "If you want me to do this, then you need to be quiet so I can look and think." I say, irritation laced through my voice. "Also, do you have a spare notebook or something? I need something to write notes down in." He walks over to the table and rummages through the supplies. He pulls out an old notebook and holds it out to me. I grab it and examine it. "This'll do" I say. I quickly scribble some notes down about what I can see. "I'm starving," Newt says. I almost laugh. That's so random I think. "Yeah me too" Minho says. I nod absent-mindedly and realise that I am too. "Let's go get something to eat" Newt says "we can come back after"
