17. 'Gas' ?

I stared at Mollie in a stunned silence which ensued after she dropped the bombshell that potentially her brother and my sister had slept together. I really didn't know what to say to Mollie, but suddenly she had stopped being angry, and started to sob. I put an arm around her shoulder, and she rested her face against my chest.

"It's ok," I comforted her "I'm going to go and get this all sorted out."

I dashed out of the practice room and across the stage, where a still bewildered Dale grabbed my arm "Hey man, what the hell is going on."

"I can't really explain now, I have to go," I left him feeling just as bewildered as he was before.

I quickly made it out of school and into my car, quickly started it and drove furiously home, my foot jammed down on the accelerator the entirety of the journey. When I pulled onto the driveway I noticed that only Lily was home; good, no-one would stop me having a go at her. I slammed the front door as I entered

"Peace with the door," Lily yelled from the front room "What has it ever done to yo-"

I cut her off as I barged through the door, grabbed the TV remote and switched off the show she was watching.

"Hey," she started to protest.

"Shut up," I demanded "You've got some explaining to do."

Suddenly she looked uneasy. Her feet had been curled up behind her, and now she sat up straight and looked straight at me.

"You," I started angrily "and Mollie's brother."

"Oh dear."

"Yes, oh fucking dear."

"Look, I can explain."

"Please do."

"I went out last night, a party, it was pretty crazy. I got drunk, and her brother - Daniel - was too. It was just a drunken fling, just one night, I didn't tell him anything."

"You better hope so," I spat, but inside I was relieved; he hadn't found out anything and Lily wasn't going back to him "There's still something you have to do," I said, slipping my phone out of my pocket.

"What?" Lily had gone from nervous, to relieved, and now to confused.

"There's someone you have to apologise to." I held the phone up to my ear as it engaged and rang.

"Hello?" Mollie answered warily

"Hey it's me, everything's fine, come around to my house now, there's someone here," I stared hotly at Lily "who can explain it all to you."

Mollie arrived in under half an hour, and guiltily Lily explained the situation to her, I smiled as the waves of relief continued to crash over Mollie's face. Unlike me she seemed to completely forgive Lily, as though it wasn't her fault. However I still had unfinished business with my sister.

"This really is great news," Mollie smiled and turned toward me, closing the space between us and pulling me into an embrace.

Lily had completely relaxed, and smiled as she watched us "Ok Romeo and Juliette," she laughed "so it's only us three who know about this."

"Yes," I replied "and it stays in this room."

"Yeah," Mollie confirmed

"Oh," Lily frowned "Why?"

"My brother," Mollie decided to confess "Is very obsessive over me, especially since my mom got diagnosed with cancer, he now feels it's partly his responsibility to look after me, and he won't allow any sort of relationship."
