8. 'Cell' ?
Compared to my last two school days Wednesday was going to be a bit of a flat one. There was a last chance Geography homework deadline which I couldn't miss, and another English essay due, but it was hardly band practice with the hottest girl in the school, or the biggest sports tournament of your life.
There were, however, some unexpected happenings. The first was when I joined Tom as he reached for his stuff from his locker. I still didn't see the value of a locker, and I hitched my bag higher onto my shoulder as if to illustrate the point.
It was early morning, and the corridors were sparsely populated, so there wasn't a large audience to see the thousands of red cards which had been stuffed into Tom's locker.
This had been Danny and Jay's practical joke. Tom had been sent off in the soccer game, as he had been shown a red card by the referee. To rub this point in they had crammed thousands of little red cards into his locker. They went everywhere, all over the floor, I couldn't suppress my grins.
"You," he growled "you had something to do with this?" I put my hands up in surrender
"No man, I had no idea."
He cursed under his breath than slammed the locker door shut, it didn't exactly help the situation, as red cards spilled out onto the corridor. I was starting to back away as onlookers gathered to laugh, which made Tom even more angry. He turned on his heel and left in a rage, most just understanding what was going on.
I felt guilty leaving him to go off by himself, so I pushed through the small crowd to head after him. I made it halfway down the corridor when an arm was struck out in front of me, stopping me in my tracks.
"Hello," It was Megan. I realised we hadn't talked since Sunday, and I felt slightly guilty. She had her fingers entwined in her deep red hair, and I wasn't sure whether she was angry or happy to see me.
"Hey," I greeted her "how are you?"
"I'm not bad. So why haven't you talked to me since sunday?"
"I...well...I...I'm sorry...I."
"Relax, I guess you've been busy."
"Er, yeah...that, yeah really busy."
"Right, that's fine."
"If you don't mind I'll have to go," I heard Tom shouting in the distance "so I'll catch up with you later yeah?"
"Sure," she mumbled, but her head was turned, and she'd already began to walk away.
I felt bad about the way I'd handled the conversation, but I didn't really have the time if I wanted to stop Tom from getting into trouble somehow.
I managed to calm him down, but he was almost foaming at the mouth when he confronted Jay.
"You're the only one I know can get into my locker," he yelled, whilst Jay laughed in his face.
He would have probably punched him if Matt and I hadn't held him back. Eventually he calmed down
"Don't know why you went crazy," Jay smirked
"Ok, you got me," Tom turned on him "but I'm gonna get you back, so bad."
"Yeah right. Idle threats."
"Just you watch GayJay."
No-one had called Jay 'Gay-Jay' since they were seven apparently, and Jay simply commented on Tom's lack of maturity. I hadn't heard it before, and couldn't suppress a laugh.
"So what's happening this weekend?" Matt asked casually as he reached for his carton of fruit juice.
"Not much," Tom grinned "feels weird not having a crazy party to go to."
