Anabella
Nick and I went for a ride
His car is red and sleek
It's sexy
With black leather interior
I asked him where we
Were going
He said it was a surprise
He touched my arm
And I flinched
The bruise is still
There it's lighter
But fixed
His car rumbled to life
On the dirt road
With the stars in the sky
I found the Big Dipper
And I traced it with my finger
Nick looked at me
Oddly
I told him keep
His eyes on the road
He grinned
And grabbed my hand
I'm not sure
If I wanted him to though
I plugged in my phone
With one hand
It was difficult
I played I'm low on gas and you need a jacket
By piece the veil
He tapped his thumb
Against the wheel
It made my heart beat faster
When we both
Began to sing along
Turns out he's
An actual fan
After all
I couldn't help but think
Of the blue eyed boy
And how he played air guitar
When he saw my bracelets
But then I thought of his hand
When he shut the door
To go into the closet
With the Barbie
Who wore short shorts
I sighed and grinned
When Nick rubbed his thumb
Against my hand
It tingled
He stopped the car
I realized
We were at a cemetery
Not just any cementery
The one where my dad was buried
"Your mom told me your dads birthday was today"
I froze as a lump built in my throat
Tears graced my cheek
He pulled me into him
And grabbed flowers from the backseat
I stared up at him
And I couldn't understand
How can someone
Be this perfect
This beautiful in the moonlight
And yet I can only wish
That Jonathan's shoulder
Was the one I was crying on
We put flowers on my dads
Grave that day
And I couldn't help but wonder
What he would have said about
Nick
Especially if he saw
The bruises on my wrist
