it's been two days. i don't think i've ever heard the gang be so quiet for so long; sure, we talk. but not as much as we used to.
"dally?" johnny was holding a glass of crystal clear water, and handed it to me. i haven't cried in years, but i could barely hold anything back anymore. i was crying for those whole two days.
"what, johnny?" i sighed, holding the glass in my hand. i had barely any strength inside of me. i tried to put the cup to my lips, but it was like my arms were glued to my legs.
"i'm sorry." was all johnny said. it's all he can say, and i knew that. but it makes my blood boil. i want something else besides "i'm sorry" or "we'll find her". i can't take it anymore sometimes, and i want to lash out. i want to scream, to cry, to yell- but i can't.
"is that all you can say?" i muttered. my fingers clutching around the glass even tighter than before. i felt bad for questioning johnny like that; he didn't deserve it. elsie was good to johnny, she was caring to him. she loved him like a son or daughter.
"you know it is, dally." darry sighed, putting the newspaper he was reading down on the table next to him. i frowned and finally shoved the cup to my lips, taking a few sips from it.
"it'll be okay, dally. and i know you are so tired of hearing that, honestly, we all are. we want her back. you need her back. we're trying our hardest to get her back, but there's not a lot we can do." soda said as he stopped pacing back and forth. that man has been pacing back and forth he might as well be a track runner. he would have the strongest legs to ever walk to earth.
"i know, soda." i said, standing up and walking to the table darry was sitting at. i placed the half full water cup down and ran my fingers through my dark brown hair.
"we love you like a brother, dal." ponyboy spoke up. he wasn't wrong, we all loved each other like brothers.
"let's go out tonight, get our minds off things." pony said. "let's live a little.".
"sure." soda and steve said at the same time. i only nodded, but darry skipped out. he had to work in the morning, and didn't want to stay out late.
"okay. let's go then, get your damn shoes on." pony rushed us, moving his arms up in a hurried fashion.

we all were sitting in the little movie chairs together. everyone there had been walking around and talking with friends or family, because the movie hadn't started yet. it was playing ads.
i got up with johnny and we walked into the concession building, there was already a line of people buying popcorn, candy, and/or drinks. some were buying alcohol, mostly adults, but they were handing the alcohol bottles and cans to kids around our age. i don't blame them either. i would be drinking my cares away right now if it wasn't for the gang convincing me to go out. i had been drinking my life away every night because i missed elsie so much.
we ordered our drinks and we carried them out to the gang. every step i took reminded me of elsie. how her feet would hit the ground and the dirt would stick to her white shoes, leaving them not as white.
"thanks, dal." soda said, taking a sip of his drink. i nodded and sat down in my seat next to johnny, who was next to ponyboy.
the movie started and everyone shuffled into their seats. some were sitting in their cars too, and we could hear the speakers well. the movie connected to cars so the sound comes out of the speakers, only, cars turn off after being idle for a while, so they'd have to keep turning the car on over and over again. boo hoo for them, i guess.
