Kiawe and Gladion were through to the Semifinals. Kiawe had an extremely tough match against Lana, who had the type advantage over him. Primarina fell to Turtonator, who managed to stand long enough for the result to be declared before fainting. It was almost a stalemate. Gladion also had a tough time against Acerola, whose style of battling was very different. The match went to the wire but in the end, Silvally beat Gengar to give Gladion the victory. The next match was Ash against Hau.

Hau was the grandson of Hala, the Island Kahuna of Melemele Island. Both Ash and Hau went to the battlefield as their names were called.

"Welcome the third Quarterfinal match, ladies and gentlemen. So far, Kiawe and Gladion have booked their spots in the Semifinals after their victories over Lana and Acerola respectively. Now, this is the chance for Ash and Hau to proceed to the Top 4 of the first Alola Pokemon League. Ash is, of course, the tournament favourite but Hau has had some impressive battles so far, and as the grandson of the Island Kahuna of the Melemele Island could give the Champion of the six regions a tough time. What will be the outcome of the battle? Stay tuned to know the answer." The commentator announced.

"Trainers choose your Pokemon," Olivia announced as soon as the trainers got ready to start.

"Raichu, come out to battle," Hau called his first Pokemon, Alolan Raichu, which was an Electric/Psychic-type.

"Take the battlefield, Malamar," Ash revealed his Dark/Psychic-type Pokemon.

"Let the battle begin." Olivia declared as the battle began.

"Raichu, use Thunderbolt." Hau began the battle with the electric-type move.

"Dodge it, Malamar and use Nasty Plot." Malamar evaded the move and increased its special attack.

"Use Double Team and Quick Attack." Raichu made illusory copies of itself and went forward to land the Quick Attack.

"Spin and use Flamethrower." Malamar spun rapidly while using Flamethrower and managed to get rid of the copies of Raichu. The real Raichu barely dodged the Flamethrower.

"Raichu, use Quick Attack again." Raichu used the move again.

"Dodge it and use Nasty Plot again." Malamar dodged at the last moment and used the status move again increasing its special attack further.

"Use Electro Ball." Raichu used another electric type move on its opponent.

"Counter it with Psycho Cut." Malamar cut through the incoming attack with the Psycho Cut. Hau was unable to land a single attack.

"Use Quick Attack again," Hau called the same move again, wanting to try something different this time. But Ash one-upped on him.

"Grab it, Malamar." Malamar caught its opponent with its scythe-like fins.

"Raichu, use Focus Blast and get out of there." Raichu desperately tried to get out of the grip.

"Take it and use Hypnosis." Malamar took the hit but successfully used Hypnosis as Raichu fell asleep. Ash called the next move to finish the battle. "End this with Dark Pulse."

"Raichu is unable to battle. Malamar wins." Olivia declared as Raichu fainted after being hit by the super-effective attack enhanced by Nasty Plot. Hau recalled his Pokemon to its Pokeball and sent out his next Pokemon after a lot of thought. But he didn't have many options.
