"Tell me, what is it they call you?" Elijah asked in his own posh way, and just like that, I fell back on the only coping mechanism I had. Deflection and anger.

"Is that your own pompous way of asking my name? Because you sound like a twat." I retorted, still hunched over but glaring heavily, refusing to answer his question.

Elijah, who looked startled by my response, cocked his head to the side and looked me over with a thoughtfulness that unnerved me more than I cared to admit. He did just decapitate something without blinking in my defence, so I think my worry is justified.

"You know of who I am, and yet you dare to insult me?" He questioned again, taking a step towards me, but I refused to back away despite my fear. I know that I told Elena that I would live for William, but if Elijah decided to kill me here and now, I'd be going with my dignity intact.

" I'm hungry and tired, and I just watched you smack off someone's head. Also, you ruined my socks. If you think I'm going to bow down to you because your ass is ancient, you're in for a hell surprise." I snapped, eyes narrowing in contempt, but much to my surprise, Elijah didn't tear my heart from my chest.

Instead, he laughed. Not just a little chuckle, but a full belly laugh and for whatever reason, I found that more frightening.

"You're an intriguing little thing, aren't you? I think I'll enjoy your company. Come." He muttered, speaking mainly at Elena towards the end, who had been observing from the sidelines.

"No, what about the moonstone?" Elena blurted, and I frowned, hoping she had more to this half baked plan than sharing information like ladies at a knitting club.

"What do you know about the moonstone?" Elijah probed, now far more interested in what secrets Elena was hiding. Grasping my arm in a surprisingly tender grip, Elijah pulled me towards Elena, who looked more fearful with every step we took.

"I know that you need it, and I know where it is." Elena continued, and it was then I realised what she was doing.

Stalling. She was trying to give Damon and Stefan time to get her, but I don't know how much longer Elijah would let this go on. He was ready to leave, and testing his patience may not be in our best interests.

"Yes." Was all he said, waiting for Elena to go on.

"I can help you get it."

"Tell me where it is." The Original all but demanded, and in true Elena style, she pushed the boundaries a little further.

"It doesn't work that way."

"Are you negotiating with me?" Elijah questioned with a subtle grin, as if he was mildly amused at her courage, but looked towards a barely coping Rose.

"it's the first I heard of it." She blurted, and I could see the pain etched into her features. It was a look that wouldn't go away for a long time, and even when it did, the scars would still be scored onto her heart as a reminder of what you'll never have again.

"What is this vervain doing around here?" Elijah states his tone hard as he tears the antique necklace from Elena's neck and tosses it to the side with little care.

"And that, you halfwit, is why you ingest it." I snapped, knowing the doppelganger wouldn't be able to withstand Elijah's compulsion. All she wanted was to stall, but here she was, forced to spill all her secrets.

"Tell me where the moonstone is." Elijah began, the corners of his lips curling ever so slightly at my smart-ass remark.

"In the tomb, underneath the church ruins."

"What is it doing there?"

"It's with Katherine." So that's where the evil vampire harlot was being stowed. And here I was thinking that none of their plans ever came to fruition.

"Interesting." Before he could delve any deeper into Elena's mind, a sound was heard throughout the house.

"What is that?" Elijah demanded, eyes travelling across the open room with methodical precision, looking for any movement or disturbance.

"I don't know," Rose stated, but she didn't look like she was willing to help any longer, regardless of her freedom that was only just granted.

"Who else is in this house?" He questioned again, more forcefully than before, but once again, he was left without answers as he dragged both Elena and I into another room with his vampiric speed.

"Do that again, and I'll barf. I might just barf on you to make a point, and it'll be profoundly disgusting." I threatened, yanking my arm from his grip, only to have him pull me back against his chest by the waist.

"Rose," Elijah warned, but the younger vampire couldn't help.

"I don't know who it is." I believed her. She sounded sincere, looking around with as much curiosity as Elijah had anger.

"Up here." A voice called from the top of the staircase, and while he released Elena to Rose, Elijah kept me firmly in his grasp as he sped up the staircase.

"Down here." Another voice sounded below, an arrow flying towards both Elijah and I with punishing speed. If it weren't for Elijah putting his hand out to stop the bolt, it would've been buried in my skull.

"Excuse me. To who may concern, you're making a great mistake if you think that you can beat me. You can't. Do you hear that?" Elijah threatened loudly as he continued to pull the hangers off a coat rack, essentially making one giant stake.

"What are you going to do, shishkabob them? Talk about dramatic." I muttered, ignoring the deadpan look that the old vampire shot my way.

"I repeat, you cannot beat me. So I want the girl. I'm gonna count to 3, or heads will roll. Do we understand each other?" Elijah warned one last time, but before he would inflict any pain upon the intruders, Elena appeared at the top of the stairs.

"I'll come with you, but just please don't hurt my friends. They just wanted to help me out." Elena squeaked, sounding nervous as hell, which only seemed to increase when Elijah appeared right in front of her with me by his side.

"Stop dragging me around, you caveman. What, did you grow up in a barn?" I grumbled, but this time Elijah didn't dignify me with a response. He was too busy assessing Elena for any signs of falsehood.

"What game are you playing with me?" Elijah pried, but before he could react, a spare shaped object was hurtling towards him. Once again, Elijah protected me, curling his body around my significantly smaller form as the grenade exploded, sending shards of glass and vervain everywhere.

I barely had a chance to recover, still in shock that Elena had just thrown a bomb at me before projectiles started flying through the air, and I was knocked down the stairs. Each slab of wood slamming into my tender flesh unforgivingly.

Finally, I stopped moving, only to feel an agonizing pain erupt in my chest with such intensity that a scream tore itself free from my already raw throat. Trying to catch my breath, I peered around the room, but my gaze stopped when I saw Elijah pinned to the wall with the same coat rack he was going to use to annihilate the Salvatore brothers.

Tearing my gaze from the oddly saddening sight, I found both Salvatore brothers and Elena Gilbert staring at me.

"The hell are you all looking at?" I snapped, hoisting myself into a stated position with a wince. It felt like my entire body was bruised.

"Here, let me help-" Elena began, walking towards me with worry across her olive coloured face.

"Elena, you just threw a bomb at me, and your boyfriend pushed me down the stairs. Fuck off."
