Hearing those words would be hard for anyone, and as Elena sat upon the lumpy cushions of the couch, her pretty face pulled into an expression of shock, I felt myself grow uncomfortable. What do you say to someone that just learned she was to be a blood sacrifice?

"Well, that's a bit shit." Was all my brain could come up with, and the look of annoyance on Elena's face told me I hadn't succeeded in making her feel better. I mean, in my defence, I didn't really try that hard.

"Why didn't you tell us you were a witch?" Elena finally asked after a bout of silence. I really should've seen it coming. I'd watched for the last however many hours as she pestered a five hundred year old vampire with her incessant curiosity. Why did I think she'd leave me alone?

"Uh, probably because it's not any of your business?" I replied with my head cocked to the side, eyebrows raised. It wasn't exactly an expression that said 'please, talk some more', but did that stop, Elena?

No, no, it did not.

"There have been so many times we could've used you, Allison. Why wouldn't you offer your help?" She demanded as if she was entitled to my magic just because we happened to know each other.

"Elena, don't take this the wrong way... or do, I don't give a shit, but why would I possibly put myself at risk for you when you already have the Salvatores, Bonnie, Tyler, Matt, and Alaric?" I asked in return, and she genuinely looked shocked by the answer.

It must've been odd to hear someone say no when you're so accustomed to getting your way, but I'm not a baker, so I'm not going to sugarcoat this shit. Caroline already knew my stance on the matter, and it was about time the eldest Gilbert learned too.

"We're friends, Allison. We've known each other our entire lives," Elena added, her dark brown eyes looking at me with hurt.

"Alright, say I decide to drop everything and throw my lot in with you, your supernatural bodyguards. What happens if I die caught in the crossfire? Caroline already did, along with half the population of Mystic Falls who so didn't die from an animal attack." I began, and for the first time since being here, Elena actually looked guilty.

"What would you tell William? He's six, Elena, and only just lost his parents three months ago, or did you forget that?" I continued, driving my point home.

"What would you tell the child who has already lost everything that his big sister is dead? He won't care that I was protecting you. He won't care about vampires, or werewolves, or weird-ass rituals. He'll be alone, completely and utterly alone, all for what? So you could live a few more years with your immortal vampire boyfriend? I don't think so. I'm not going to die for you; I'm going to live for my brother." I finished, knowing that there was nothing she could say that would justify her desire to pull me into her mess.

"Are we done here? Great, I'm going to go count cobwebs. Let me know if anyone dies." I said with a clap of my hands, hoisting myself off the couch and wandering towards one of the few windows that wasn't blacked out.

Elena: Tell me more

Rose, Trevor and Elena continued talking about the Originals, their origins and how they knew each other. It seemed that everything terrible that happened always came back to Katherine, and I have to say, the woman was cutthroat.

It seemed that she was willing to sacrifice anyone at any time if it meant that she lived. I thought that Rose and Trevor had it rough, but at least they weren't alone. They had a family in each other, even if it was just two.

Katherine had no one, whether by choice or because she didn't want it, I wasn't sure, but it sounded incredibly lonely.

Elena had secretly told me that the Slavatores were on their way. Of course, they were. Their damsel was in distress, the dragons needed to be bested, and after all, was said and done, they would resume their bickering over who Elena loved the most, and everything would be right in the world.
