Allison's POV

Despite the emotional rollercoaster, I was just subjected to, I couldn't help but snicker as William smacked away Elijah's hand with attitude.

I held him close with his face nestled into my neck, and took in the familiar scent of coconut shampoo and cookies, wispy strands of his soft, mused hair tickling my nose as I did so.

"There's no doubt that you're related. Both very so charming." Elijah voiced, amusement twinkling in those observant eyes as he pulled his hand back.

"You know what? We absolutely are." I retorted quickly, knowing that William had definitely inherited my standoffish personality.

It wasn't intentional, and I didn't necessarily want him to be a carbon copy of me, but my way of dealing with grief and all the rotten things that come with it was to keep people at bay, with a few exceptions, and William had clearly picked up on it, adopting it as a trait of his own.

"Hey, Sonny?" My brother voiced from beneath my hair.

"Yeah, baby?" I answered quickly, brushing the hair from his face as he peered up at me.

"What's for dinner?" He asked casually, and I scoffed, momentarily surprised by the resilience of a child; it truly was remarkable.

"Considering how brave you were, why don't you choose?" I offered, and he gasped, eyes lighting up with glee.

"Anything I want?!" He exclaimed, and I chuckled lightly. It was the least I could do after what had just transpired.

This was precisely what I wanted to keep him away from, but I had failed. Not only had I failed, but I had failed so spectacularly that I'm sure my parents were looking down on me in shame. Damon was right; they would be so disappointed in me.

After a nod of confirmation, William squealed and began to think very hard about the endless possibilities.

Glancing towards Elijah, I offered a slight, dimpled grin that he returned, leaning sexily against a tree as if he had any right to look that good.

"I know, I know! Let's get burgers and nuggets from the Grill, 'cause I know you don't like their nuggies, and then we can make cookies for dessert!" William finally decided with an outburst of excitement.

"That sounds like a fantastic idea, my love!" I exclaimed, ensuring that my enthusiasm matched his even if I felt as though my soul was withering.

Trying to be inconspicuous, William narrowed his eyes at Elijah before leaning in and whispering his query.

"Does the fancy man want to come?" All while keeping his eye trained on the Original Vampire.

I paused and glanced towards Elijah, who slightly raised his eyebrows, obviously hearing the question.

It bothered me that I wanted to say yes so quickly.

I spent so much time trying to stay out of the supernatural world that plagued Mystic Falls. I'd refused to help Elena, Bonnie, and the Salvatores. I even said no to Caroline, whom I loved so very much, but Elijah waltzes into my life with his murderous tendencies, fantastic sense of fashion, dashing smiles, and suddenly all for it? No, I don't think so.

"If he so pleases."

Bitch, what the FUCK?!

"How could I refuse such a gracious offer?" Elijah asked rhetorically as he stepped towards me with that annoyingly attractive smirk, amusement dancing in his eyes.

"You say no," William interjected with a sniff, looking Elijah up and down with narrowed eyes. Snorting, I watched with great joy as Elijah tried to think of an answer that a six-year old boy would understand.
