Being orphaned not three months ago, Allison Levi and her younger brother, William, were still trying to deal with the pain and inconceivable grief that Death left behind as he stole away their parents.
All Allison wanted was to be left alone with...

Elijah's POV
I knew from the moment I laid eyes on her that she was special. There was something about her that pulled me in. From those bottomless oak pools that captured the faintest rays of sunlight that filtered through the dusty windows to the fearless scowl that seemed so out of place on her elven face as she held my stare unflinchingly.
Even dressed in her stained shirt and odd socks, she was by far the most beautiful woman I had ever seen and given how long I'd lived and how far I'd travelled, it should have been no easy feat, but there she was, staring at me with fire in her eyes and attitude pouring from her mouth.
Absolutely spectacular.
It wasn't just her ferocity that caught me off guard. I'd encountered many women over the course of my long life with spitfire personalities, but it was the glimpse of compassion I'd seen just before both she and Trevor noticed my presence.
Trevor and Rose aimed to kidnap the Petrova doppelganger, and it seemed the little witch was caught in the crossfire, but despite this, despite being held captive by two five hundred year old vampires, she still chose to help Trevor.
She didn't save his life; no one could've, his death warrant was sealed the moment he crossed me, but she did something better. I wasn't entirely sure what it was, but I had watched with wrapped curiosity as the fright fell from his face and relief took its place.
Yes, I ended his life, but he didn't die with fear in his heart, which is all any of us can truly ask for when death extends its cold tendrils towards us.
While I knew that I was justified in my punishment, I do hold regret for scaring the young lass.
She held her own better than most, but is coated in blood from a being that was living mere moments ago was enough to serve anyone.
The vomit that covered my shoes earlier was evidence of that.
Now, I found myself moving stealthily through the small town of Mystic Falls. A town that looked oh so quaint from the outside, but beneath that peaceful facade lurked a far more sinister history, one dripping with the blood of innocents and demons alike.
When I first arrived, I believed that it was to gather more information on the newest Petrova, but it was a lie and a poor one at that.
I could've gathered everything I needed from afar, but I wanted an excuse to find the woman that'd entranced me.
A woman whose name I was still to learn.
Her house was easy enough to find, I asked one of the locals, and they were so kind as to point me in the right direction, but if I wanted to learn anything about the mysterious, snarky witch, I couldn't just rattle on her door because I knew that I'd get told to go away.
But with far more colourful words.
So, I put on the most charming, disarming smile I could manage, and knocked on the door of the neighbouring house.
