Elijah's POV.

I'd been on this Earth for a very long time, and I was skilled in many different fields, but if there was one thing that I was a master at, it was fear.

I had seen it in the eyes of countless men and women whose lives I ended. I'd seen it on the faces of my siblings whenever Mikael's abhorrent soul fell upon us.

And I saw it now, etched into Allison's fine features, a perfect depiction of fear and manic rage. It swirled in those dark chocolate pools like a tsunami about to crash down, wiping out everything in its path.

It was a dangerous thing to do, threatening someone's family-especially someone who was far more powerful than you.

"William!" Allison cried as she ripped herself from my arms and bolted towards the primary school in a flourish of panic.

Had I not already encountered Damon and Elena earlier, perhaps I would've remained hidden, but since that was not the case, I could do whatever I wished to whomever I pleased.

And I very much wanted to instil some manners in this repugnant vampire.

"Sonny! I'm here-" The voice of a young child called, a voice that was quickly cut off.

Allison whipped around towards the cry, hair billowing behind her, and just as she did, Damon wandered into view with a boy no older than six dangling in the air by his colourful backpack.

"I believe this belongs to you?" The Salvatore called from across the grassed field with a perverse grin stretching across his face.

He hadn't yet noticed me, fixated on Allison and the look of distress upon her face.

"Get off of me, you fat dummy!" The child yelled, struggling with all his might, but Damon didn't release him; if anything, his grip tightened.

"If you touch a single hair on his head, I'm going to make you suffer in ways you can't possibly begin to understand," Allison warned, the terror in her tearful eyes merging into a cold fury.

"You see, it's easy to say shit like that, but honey... I've got the leverage." Damon taunted, giving William a little shake, emphasising his point.

The scowl that William shot toward his captive nearly made me chuckle from the shadows.

I'd been given that exact same look mere moments ago.

"Perhaps you should heed her warning," I cautioned, drawing Damon's attention towards me.

"The hell are you doing with The Wicked Witch of the West?" He responded, genuine confusion replacing that cocky facade.

"That doesn't concern you. What should concern you is your life... Now, let. My. Brother. Go." Allison commanded with more authority than I had ever seen in someone so young.

Her voice carried a low tone at odds with the fire igniting behind those oak windows.

The air was thrumming with magic, thumping in tempo a beating heart, and I could feel the sheer power behind it. Involuntarily, I stood rigid, muscles coiled with anticipation as the hairs on the back of my neck stood on end.

I was an Original Vampire. I was impervious to death, there was only one thing able to kill us, and we'd wiped it from the face of the Earth and yet was uneasy.

It had been hundreds of year's since I'd felt so unsettled, but the untapped current of energy that flowed from Allison was putting me on edge.

I'm glad it wasn't directed towards me but said recipient suddenly looked very, very nervous.
