Dark finally escaped the meeting room with a groan, sighing softly as he pressed a hand to his head. That was awful. He had one, one, subject he wanted to talk about! A singular subject! Un! Une! Uno! One damn subject: how they planned to keep Y/N safe, and what did they do instead? They got sidetracked by Bing offering to order lunch.
Numbskulls, the lot of them..
Now when was his subway getting here? He had an Italian BMT with his name written all over it-Dark stopped in his path and took a deep breath. Everyone had been present at that off topic meeting besides one person; a person who loved nothing more than to listen in on conversation.
The Host was not there.
Usually, Dark would not be upset at such an absence, but considering the subject matter, the recent events and this being The Host...he had cause for concern. He waited the slow and tedious 12 minutes it took for his sandwich to arrive and settled down to eat it, a pink man settling down next to him. Wilford unwrapped his sandwich bag which turned out to be a line of cookies wrapped up like a sandwich, and yet, that was a surprise to no one.
Wilford happily munched on his sandwich, thinking about the meeting and his precious Y/N, who was tucked soundly into bed for a nap. The Googles were monitoring them to ensure that nothing happened. There were no nightmares, so that was good. Not that Yellow or Green would know what to do with a crying Y/N, so he or Dark would likely have to be brought in. He mindlessly chewed through his faux cookie sandwich, his train of thought coming to a halt as Darkling engaged him in conversation.
"Wil." Dark started, which concerned Wilford. That was a serious talk nickname. "Have you seen the Host? I know he is not the most social of people, but it is out of character of him to miss this sort of meeting." The gray man questioned, the worry just as evident on his face as the incoming beard. Subtle, but noticeable.
"Im sure hosty is just having a nap, Darkling. You know he's been working a lot these few days! Working on stopping you know who from doing who knows what at who knows when!" Wilford chuckled confidently, Dark just looking at him in confusion. Wilford sighed and set his cookie down. "Darkling, I'm sure that hosty is alright..perhaps a bit burnt out, sure, but aren't we all? I understand that today's meeting was supposed to be about Y/N, and that you wanted to focus on that but..it's been a few months, Damien...can't we talk about something else for a change..?" "You act like you forget the conclusion you drew, Wilford. I angered Anti and Y/N was there, now Y/N is in danger because of me! How could you expect me to think about anything else than my failure to protect the one person who cannot protect themselves?!" He exclaimed, the room becoming cold around the gray figure.
Wilford watched as his oldest friend went through the agony again: their situation. He sighed softly and placed a hand on Darks cheek, the room warming back up. "Darkling." He said gently. "Breathe, and let's talk. You want to check on Host and protect our child..putting something in priority too doesn't make Y/N any less of a priority..how about this, I check on Hosty, and you check on Y/N. Two birds, one stone, yeah?" The man offered, Dark slowly nodding.
He couldn't offer Dark everything, but he hoped that he could offer enough reassurance and hope that things would be resolved.
HopeDark needed hope.
