Chapter 33

I woke up 24 hours after I went to sleep. I got dressed and grabbed an apple on my way outside. I saw Elder Silva and Delta Zander outside. "Good morning. This morning I am going to show you a few blocking moves as Zander here tries to hit me. Then we are going to go slow motion and explain them. Then going to have you practice those techniques."

"Why are we practice in human and not wolf form?"

"You will have to learn control because we cannot always fight as a wolf. Just like you cannot always cast spells as a witch we have to learn to hide in plain sight. When we cannot be wolves we fight as humans."

I reply, "ok show me."

Elder says, "A jab is not a knockout punch, but you can use it to distract and annoy your attacker for the split-second before you throw a devastating straight punch with your right hand. Make sure that as you throw the straight punch you are twisting your hips and are transferring your weight from your back foot to your front foot." He shows me jab, jab, straight punch. Very fast. He knocks the gamma down. The gamma jumps backs up. Then he goes through the motion slowly, "see i jab, jab, twist hip and straight punch." I nod my head. "Now you come here and do it."

I put my hands into two fist. "If you make a fist with thumb on inside better chance you will break your thumb. Curl up your four fingers into your palm. Lay your thumb across the fingers until it's at your ring finger area. I notice your a righty so jab your left hand into the gamma's palm. Just keep jabbing until I saw punch. When I say punch you twist hip and punch other palm."

I kept jabbing and when he yelled punch I twisted to far and caused me to loose balance and fall. The guys laughed and gamma reached down to help me up. I glared and pushed his hand to the side and got up on my own. I got back into position. Elder put his hands on my hip. "The first time I did this I twirled around several times and got dizzy. I had put my alpha power into it. You did better than me. This time my hands will be on your hip to stop the twist." We did this for 1-1/2 hours. I was sore. Elder then spoke up, go change and the gamma gonna take you for a run. Follow him. If he jumps over a tree you jump over it. If he goes under a branch you go under it. He will start off slow and pick up speed. The goal is not to run into any obstacle on the path he goes on.  Not to fall. This is to help you learn to trust your wolf and work together."

The Delta took off and I went running right behind him.  He ran fast and I actually had to run a slower pace. It was difficult to follow him when I could hear my wolf snarling, "get to the front. We are alpha and he is a delta. We should be in front." My  wolf and I are fighting and I have a branch fly back and hit me in the face and sends me rolling down the incline we are climbing.

I lay at the bottom of the hill shaking my stunned head. Delta Zander runs down to me, "are you ok."

"How do you stop it?" I ask.

"Stop what?" He replied.

"My wolf was yelling at me to pass you because she should be in front. I was arguing with her and did not notice that branch swinging back. She really distracted me."

"It takes time, but wolves also get angry. When that happens they can take control, but with practice that will happen less and less. Sometimes you can use their strength, but if they are being totally out of control you can picture them locked in a silver bar cage. But you only do that if really bad. That helps your wolf know even in either form you are in control. I only had to do that three times with my wolf when he first came out."

"So it is true wolves cannot be around silver?"

"Silver burns us."

"Then how come I am wearing silver jewelry and it doesn't burn me?"

He looks at me and thinks, "maybe because you also are part witch. Your best bet is not to tell anyone that. I will check our archives about that. Now let's head back." He gets up and starts walking, "by the way ask the Alpha , Elder and Beta how many times they have had to put their wolves in the cage."

We get back. I clean up for breakfast. Then after breakfast I sit down with the Elders and we discuss everything. I learned that Elder Silva that since he was an alpha that he sometimes still has to use the cage.

Then after Elder training which was basically me talking about my wolf it was decided I would do one hour of witches defense and and one hour of witches offense training instead of regular school work to round off my morning. They would test me in what I know. Then start next week in my regular Monday-Friday schedule.

Deon and James were standing out in the yard after I ate breakfast.  Deon threw a spell at James and James blocked it. He threw three more at him. James blocked them all. I was watching them both intently. I saw Deon get ready to throw another spell, so I turned to see how James would block it. All the sudden I am thrown into the air and I tuck into a ball and roll when I hit the ground. I threw two counter spells at both of them since I wasn't sure who I was suppose to attack. Deon was turned into a toad and James blocked me.  James looked down and Deon and laughed. He turned toward me and asked, "what would I had been turned into!"

"A pig." I then waved my hand and Deon was turned back into himself."

Deon said, "great counter attack, but turning him into a swine would of been bad."

"Why? You were acting like a toad and he was acting like a pig at breakfast."

"But pigs can run between your legs and knock you down. While a toad cannot. However, the best thing to turn an enemy into is a fish unless you're near water. Then it is a non-flying bug that can go splat into the water."

"A fish? A bug?"

"Think defensively. Turning into a small gold fish when away from water they will flop around and die. Then if around water a non flying bug will either drown or get ate hopefully by a fish."

"When I threw that last spell and you surprised me by countering it. I was throwing it to catch you by surprise and we both surprised each other. Remember you need to always be prepared or you might end up dead. See I don't do dark magic but others do. I hit you with a slight draining spell. That tells me that James needs to teach you how to counter."

James walks up and says, "start throwing more drainage spells at her after I teach her the basic spell. Then we can build up from there. Since there are several witches and we all going to use them to throw drainage spells as you get more experience. We will just start with level 1 spells."

1-1/2 hours later I had been thrown to the ground 48 times and blocked 15 of them.

Then it was lunch time. After lunch I worked with the fairies. They could not get my wings to come out, but they did manage to teach me how to resize myself. Plus some various fairy spells which I picked up very quickly.

This is what we worked on for a few months until Alpha Shane came and asked for our help. They had a fairy and wolf hybrid that was heading toward their pack that never made it.  They wanted us to go with them to help with the search.
