I know the title is weird, but it'll make sense later. Expect angy Updyke and expect... semi caring Updyke? 🤔🤨☁️

Your POV

I was in my office doing work. I was told to find how I got in ad make it impossible to do that again.

I couldn't help but think of what Updyke'll say if I did a good job. I am by no means a people pleaser, but for some reason I wanted to be on my boss's good side. Is that being a suck up? I hope not.

However, since I wanted to please him, I decided to block up other holes and things. Of course, I didn't do it alone. Updyke has a small team of people like me. Well, not exactly like me, but a bunch of computer nerds nevertheless.

A few would walk into my office and ask if they had anything to do. I had never been the boss of anyone, so I just gave them some small tasks. I also gave them the job of helping people in the building with their computer problems.

When I got all the holes covered, and checked to see that my team was finished, I looked out and saw that it was getting late.

I oughta head home, I thought to myself. Maybe I could stop by Updyke's to say bye.

I grabbed my purse and walked to the elevator, begrudgingly.

I wish there were stairs in the stupid building, I complained.

I mean... there was the fire escape, but that was emergencies only.

The elevator did a disgusting lurch when it reached the top floor and dinged when it opened. How dare the elevator have such a happy ding after trying to kill me.

I immediately stopped in my tracks after stepping out the elevator.

There was a man sitting in front of Updyke's desk. Updyke looked terrifying. Worse than when I first met him. He was a dark gray, with bright sparks shooting around him.

His eyes flicked to me then back to the man.

"What are you doing here? Can't you see I'm in a meeting?" he growled in British.

I frantically thought of an excuse.

I can't just waste his time with a good bye! Think!

I stopped a few seconds to craft my response beautifully.

I'm sorry, sir. I came to grab the book you said I could borrow.

"U-um! B-book! Yes!" I stutter, stupidly pointing at the bookshelves.

Nailed it.

The cloud man took a deep breath, the sparks fading away.

"I did say you could come anytime. Wait on the couch a moment."

I sat on one of the sofas in his office and waited patiently. The men started speaking in low voices. The last sentence spoken by Updyke was just barely audible.

"I don't care..." he said something I couldn't hear, "...find where he is now!"

The man stood and spoke aloud, "Of course, Mr. Updyke."

He walked, more like stomped, to the elevator and left. Updyke collapsed in his chair, spinning slightly, with his hand over his eyes. He took many deep breaths to calm down. When he looked back up at me he was almost normal.

"Sorry you had to see me like that," he said.

"I've seen you like that before," I remind him.

He cringed slightly, "And I apologise for then, as well."
