Hello, Darlings. I'm sick today so I have some time to write. Pros and cons I suppose. Anyways, enjoy.

Updyke's POV

That girl... she said she was going to that club, but why wouldn't she tell me why? I wouldn't have suspected a thing, I would've been fine if she just said she wanted to have fun or something, but she kept secrets. Imagine that?! Keeping secrets from the man who has her life on a string.

Now that is a terrifying thought. Of course I could never hurt her. I don't want to harm anyone. Besides, she's a good employee, willingly or not.

I sit at my desk, barely touching my work, my thoughts focused entirely on her. There was something I couldn't put my finger on. Why was she my main focus? I have other things I need to do. Maybe she's a threat. Maybe my mind is sending warnings. Or maybe... of course not. It could never be that. Arthur made sure of that.

My thoughts were interrupted by the elevator ding and a man yelling for me.

"Mr. Updyke!" he panted. "We have the location of Whitmore!"

I instantly bring myself into action mode, "Where. Is. He?"

"A small, nobody club. Club Funkin', sir."

My eyes widen.

Y/N

She was the first word that popped into my head.

"Get the car," I growled and picked up my phone, calling Y/N.

Your POV

After Whitty was finished singing, obviously winning, we all hung out together and laughed. Hex even tried, unsuccessfully, to teach me how to dance.

I asked Whitty a few subtle questions, not too obvious, trying to get any sort of hints or clues on the TGG, but the few that I did get I couldn't get him to elaborate on. Eventually I just gave him my number and told him to call me if he needed anything, and I did the same for Carol and Hex, as well.

"Ah, well," I grinned. "I'm calling it a night. I'll see you guys soon."

I walk outside and call Archie.

"Hey, Archie," I greeted.

"Hey, hun. Ready to come home?" he replied swiftly.

"Mhm. It was surprisingly fun."

"Good. I'm on my way now. Did you make any new friends?"

"You could say that. I-" I was interrupted by another call coming in.

Updyke is calling...

"Hold on, Archie. Someone else is calling me," I switch over to Updyke's call. "Hey?"

"Where are you?"

"I'm doing great, thanks for asking. I'm standing outside the club you knew I was going to. Archie is picking me up soon."

"No he's not. You're staying behind me for the time being. I don't want you getting hurt. There's a man in there that could kill you. He's unpredictable. A monster. No, you are going to let Archie know that I'll be taking you home."

I gulp. I know he's talking about Whitty. I think of what would happen if Whitty saw me sitting comfortably in Updyke's car.

"That's really not necessary. Archie is already on his way, please," I almost pleaded, my voice shaking.

I hear a thin, pained, wavering breath on the other side of the phone, "Fine. But as soon as you're at your house, you call me. You got that?" His British accent was a deep growl. The kind where you know that there's no way in Hell that you could say no.

Archie pulled around the front of the building and hinked his horn, grinning at me.

"Of course," I say quietly before hanging up the phone.

I climb into Archie's car and buckle myself in.

"Are you alright?" he asks, genuinely concerned for me. "You look like you've seen a ghost."

"Prank caller."

Welp. That's that. Another stepping stone in that stairway of sweet sweet suspense. On an unrelated note, halfway through writing this I stopped to clean my glasses and bro that shiz was like switching from SD to HD. It's like going from a Russian dash cam to 4k footage on a Samsung Galaxy.
