I ran past the river as usual. It was the same picture I always saw. Every morning, I jogged. I didn't have the money or the car to go to the gym every morning. I didn't drive. I was about 35 minutes into my jog when the pain in my back stung again. It was a sharp pain at first then it dulled down slowly, still painfully.

I came to the usual traffic lights just like every other morning and pressed the button to cross the road. No car came but I still didn't cross, who wants to die right? Another man jogged by me not waiting for the green man. That was a bit embarrassing really. Oh, is little Emma too scared to cross the road? Well, I showed everyone present that I wasn't. Everyone present included me and...me. The pain in my back ignited again and I grabbed the spot with my hand before continuing on to get home in time for work.

Being 19 and in college meant that it wasn't actually work but an apprenticeship at the local newpaper. However, the man who employed me and my best friend Namjoon gave us a paycheque at the end of each week. I arrived home to my small apartment. Jungkook was still asleep so I hopped into the shower. As I was showering I discovered that my shampoo was gone. Jungkook had brought his over last night so I used some of his. I smelled like a boy but at least I was clean.

After I dried my hair, did my makeup and ate breakfast, I finally got out of my dressing gown to get dressed. I was just pulling on a pair of shoes when Jungkook walked out of the bathroom, brushing his teeth.

"Good morning beautiful," he said through toothpaste.

"Hi you," I giggled back. He looked really good standing in just his underwear and a pair of flip flops. "What's up?"

He went into the bathroom to spit out the toothpaste. "I'm just stressed about my show. I still want to write two more songs and some of the songs I have written are just...shit," he sighed. I walked over to him and wrapped my arms around his torso.

"Nothing you do is shit," I told him. He laughed.

"Emma, where's my stuff?" he asked, looking around the room.

I walked over to my vanity to check my makeup before saying, "In your drawer."

"I have a drawer?" he smirked. I stopped in my tracks. I realised I hadn't discussed it with him.

"Uh...yea...I mean if you want a drawer it's there for you. There was nothing in the drawer before-well there were a couple of things but I just put them somewhere else so it's...it's your drawer now..." I spoke quickly. He stood there and smiled at me then bowed his head and chuckled.

"You are so cute, you know that?" he shouted back to me as he went back into the bathroom. I heard a car horn coming from outside. That would be Joonie picking me up for work. Jungkook emerged with more toothpaste on his toothbrush. "We're getting so...domesticated, babe," he laughed before shoving the toothbrush into his mouth.

"I gotta go," I told him. I ran over to him and kissed him even with the toothpaste.

"Babe, -oothpaste," he mumbled.

"Bye!" I yelled running through the door. Joonie was waiting in the car, his red hair immediately recognisable.

"Why do you smell like a man?" he asked. That's Namjoon. Not even a hello.

"I was out of shampoo so I used Jungkook's," I replied.

"Ugh 'Kookie'," he mocked. He didn't approve of Jungkook. I'd ask why but there was never really an answer, he just didn't like the boy.

"Yes, Kookie. He's my boyfriend Namjoon," you sighed. "You're going to have to get used to it sooner or later."

"As your best friend, it is my duty to protect you from assholes," he said.

"Is it your duty to comment on my shampoo?"

"Is it my duty to drive you to work?"

"...no..."

"Exactly, so shut up and be thankful. By the way, we're going for cappuccinos."

"Joonie I don't wanna be late again!"

"Then you should probably learn how to drive."

"Is your back still sore?" Namjoon asked. I had gotten another sharp pain while waiting in line and had grabbed the same spot again.

"Yea, it kills," I said, squinting my eyes with the pain.

"Maybe you should go to the doctor," he suggested.

"I have an appointment at the hospital after work for an x-ray," I told him.

"Oh, good. Maybe it hurts because you've been doing some weird sex positions with Jungkook," he chuckled. He always found a way to talk about sex or genitals. I scoffed in reply. "I'm just saying, it's happened to me before. Weird sex positions are dangerous Em."

"It's not that! We actually haven't had sex in 3 weeks," I mumbled.

"Three weeks?!" he almost yelled. "What the fuck is wrong with this guy?"

"Shh! Well he was sick for like a week and I had my period straight after that so we couldn't..."

"You can have sex on your period can't you?" he asked.

"Ew! Namjoon, no!"

"Well has he been doing other stuff if you guys haven't been doing the nasty?" I rolled my eyes at his question. "What?" he asked with an 'innocent' look on his face.

"He doesn't like that other stuff..." I mumbled.

"Obviously! Guy don't like sticking their fingers-"

"Stop!" I whisper-yelled. We had now gotten our cappuccinos and were leaving the coffee shop.

"Fine, but if you ever need me and my penis, I'm always here for you," he said, smiling. I rolled my eyes again.

I got the bus to the hospital later on that day and walked through the white-walled building to have my x-ray. A while later I was sitting in a doctor's office waiting for the results. I looked around the room and familiarised myself with it.

The walls in here were also white. The desk was glass and there were absolutely no streaks on it. The Apple computer off to the left side of the desk looked almost brand new, in fact it probably was. There was a notice board behind the desk with cards from children saying numerous and endless thank yous to the doctor who owned this office.

The door clicked open and a man walked in wearing a classic white coat. He said nothing and sat down behind his desk. He didn't look like the type of man who would be dealing with children.

"Well Ms. Stevens, it seems that you have a case of schwannoma neurofibrosarcoma. This is an odd case as well because-"

"Wait, what's wrong with me?" I cut him off. I didn't speak doctor.

"It means that you have a tumor and said tumor is currently residing on your spine which is why you've been feeling the pain you described earlier. Now, with your unusual case-"

"A tumor? How can I have a tumor, I'm 19? I don't smoke, I don't drink and I've never taken drugs in my life. I even recycle," I questioned him non-stop.

"Yes and that is why this case is so unusual. Your cancer is....unusual.....out of place.....we can......." His word joined together in one long jumble of noises. Everything I was looking at blurred and collided together in one big massive pixel. A loud buzzing noise echoed through my head. It was only cut off by one word every couple of seconds.

Cancer.
