And so a blissful life with Heisenberg began. Once the road block of their returning feelings had been crossed, things went smoothly. Despite the fact that Valera never wanted to talk about making things official, Heisenberg was content. The only thing he really disliked about the situation was the lack of a title for them. He didn't like things being so up in the air. Valera, on the other hand, was terrified of titles. Absolutely petrified by the sound of them.
But, no matter how unready Valera said she was, Heisenberg told her time and time again he would wait for her to be ready. She was well aware that it would be ages before she'd be ready to commit to a genuine relationship with him, yet she still acted as if she was in one with him already. She wasn't scared of the content of a relationship, she was just scared of the name.
"I've been meaning to ask," Valera said, stalking into the workspace with a bit of a confused look on her face. "What's up with the tank that sits outside in the yard?"
Heisenberg turned to look at her a little better. She'd consistently now found comfort in his shirts, nice or not and wore them around the factory. He also noticed how instead of sitting on her normal table, she sat on the ground. He watched Damon and Heiko come and sit beside her, looking happier than ever to receive some attention, as that wasn't ever Heisenberg's forte with the shepherds.
"Just for parts. Came through here during World War II and then never left. This village used to be a battle field, at least so I've been told. I may be ancient but I'm not that old." he said. Valera hummed and glanced down at the dogs as they both eventually laid down across her legs.
"They really like you, Val." Heisenberg said softly after a moment. Valera looked up at Heisenberg and smiled gently. She looked back down at the two animals with enough tenderness and love to make his heart melt.
"I really like them too." she muttered. Heisenberg chuckled a little and watched her carefully draw her hands over their heads, scratching behind their ears carefully. She let out a pleasant sigh and looked back up at Heisenberg.
"It's funny to think that when I first got here I thought the dogs were going to eat me alive." she said. Heisenberg hummed.
"It's funny to think how quickly they warmed up to you after." he answered, walking past her to get to something or another. Valera watched him walk before turning her full attention back towards the dogs.
"How come you have them? If you never pet them or anything?" Valera asked. Heisenberg stared at the wall a moment before looking back over at the peaceful creatures.
"They were originally supposed to be guard dogs before the fence had barbed wire on top of it. They were supposed to stand guard out there and kill anyone who came in but I had this great idea one day for modified dogs. It was genius at the time, but I didn't think about any possible consequences. Damon and Heiko can't be wet for very long anymore. They're truly weapons of mass destruction. The reason you haven't seen that is because there's been no need for you to see that." Heisenberg said. Valera's face showed her shock as she looked back down at the dogs.
It was hard to believe that they were modified, as Heisenberg put it. Robo-dogs is what he was saying. They were once just dogs, but now they're part dog. It was a little inhumane to Valera, but then again, what wasn't inhumane about what Heisenberg was doing. She carefully stroked down the animals' bodies and sighed.
"How long ago did you modify them?" Valera asked. Heisenberg smiled a little.
"21 years ago. I accidentally made them immortal in the modification process." he said. Valera's eyes jumped back up to his with a bit of an angered look before her face calmed again. She sighed and gave the two pups a careful pat on the head before standing.
"So you rejected them because they weren't perfect? Or better yet, neglected them?" she asked. Heisenberg sighed.
"When you put it like that it sounds a lot worse." he muttered. Valera scanned Heisenberg's body language and sighed.
"Do you at least realize what's wrong with what you did?" she asked quietly. She'd stood up and began walking towards him, his eyes now completely diverted from hers.
"I do. I shouldn't have neglected them because they didn't work, I should have embraced them because they survived. Better yet, I should have just left them as they were." Heisenberg sighed. He looked over at the dogs with a remorseful look and Valera understood his regrets. That was all she'd wanted.
"At least I know there's still some human in you." she said softly. She carefully touched his cheek and placed a prompt, gentle kiss upon his cheek before whistling for the dogs to follow her from the room.
When she arrived in her now shared room with Heisenberg, she noticed something on the bedside table. While Damon and Heiko jumped up onto the bed and found comfortable spots, the little metal stallion that Heisenberg had been slaving away on was now finished and grazing on grass that Valera couldn't see. She leaned down to its level and clearly startled it, startling herself in the process. It seemed like a real animal.
"Perseus..." she murmured. The little horse seemed to calm immediately and a warm feeling rushed through her body. The little steel had been a success. He was the first of many projects being worked on between Heisenberg and Valera, as together Valera was able to fit tiny pieces and Heisenberg was able to assemble the bigger picture. Nothing short of a dream team.
Valera gave a happy squeal as Perseus dipped down his head again to begin to graze at the nonexistent grass, only to startle again and whinny a little. Valera looked at him with excitement pure in her eyes. She reached down and scooped him up, holding him high in the air.
"You're perfect..." she whispered. The little horse neighed as Valera placed him down and continued to admire him. She grinned as she watched him gallop around the nightstand like it was a full blown field.
"Now Perseus, I must ask, do you think that Heisenberg can build you, but life-size?" she asked the little piece of metal. It seemed to consider the question before nodding its head, making Valera laugh.
"You're truly his son, I'd say. You sure as hell think like him."
