With his fingers laid softly on his now barren lips Arthur Leywin was in shock.
He stared forward, not looking at anything besides his own thoughts. He questioned everything while questioning nothing.
He couldn't comprehend what just happened.
She really did that...
God damn why did she do that.
What was Arthur going to do? She was just a childhood friend. . . Right? She was like family to him. He has known her forever so he couldn't love her.
She was family to him... Someone he cared for but nothing more.
Nothing more.
Nothing more.
Nothing more.
She couldn't be anything more to him. She was just the girl he grew up with.
Just the girl who could care for him without any other intentions. The girl who wanted to stand by his side just because he was himself. The girl who could shed tears for him when he left because she would miss him. She only cared about Arthur as a person not as an object that can be used.
Countless women tried to use him in his last life. He was a king and they either sought money or their father forced them onto him.
He never felt love for any women before. Nor did a woman ever feel any love for him.
Was Tess that person? Was Tess someone he could love so freely?
Love without regrets, love without intentions, love without hardship, just someone that actually cares for who he is.
Does that exist?
Is love something he could feel for Tess?
The more he questioned it the less he could understand it. Tess was his friend, someone he cared for and nothing more.
Arthur couldn't experience something like love.
He has his family and that's enough for him.
Arthur laid back onto his pillow and his eyes felt droopy. He was in need of sleep hours ago. He couldn't think straight anymore. Tess made him think crazy thoughts just because he was tired. He was sure of it... Sleep would fix all his problems...
Arthur looked out onto the horizon; it was a sunset late in summer. He could still feel the sun's warmth on his skin as he laid back on a field of grass.
He had never felt so relaxed in his life, it felt like all his problems in his life were non-existent. Nothing could take this moment the soft breeze went through the air to fight the warmth of summer as fall would take over soon.
"Isn't it beautiful?" A voice asked
Arthur turned shocked to look down to see Tess in his arms snuggled up to his chest with a soft smile on her face.
But it wasn't Tess he knew she looked older as if she was in her mid twenties. She looked so different but so similar at the same time no matter how much older she looked Arthur could tell it was her right away. She cut her hair shorter to be just below shoulder length. He couldn't understand why it did but it suited her nicely.
She wore a white summer dress that made her glow under the last gleams of sunlight. It reminded him of the clothes she wore when they were young. Clothes that were comfortable and carefree, so why? Why did she look so amazing?
Arthur sat in awe at the elven princess in front of him. He never noticed it before, it was something he never cared to notice how gorgeous she was.
