Caiden and I watched the entire first season of Lost. Sunshine seeped through the cracks in the blinds pulled over the windows in Caiden's room. A half-eaten bag of chips lay between us on the bed. My birthday was two days away and Sheila, William and Ian went to Paris without me.
Selfishly, I thought they would stay. I knew it was an idiotic thought, but the entitled, spoiled only-child within me thought they'd postpone the trip. At least until my birthday passed.
And now, they strolled through the streets of Paris and ate delicious food in ridiculously expensive restaurants, while I wished I could be a part of Lost just so I could bang Sawyer.
"Wanna order something?" Caiden asked as his laptop spontaneously and without consent played the first episode of the second season.
"Maybe we should go outside." I suggested, wanting to feel the spring sunshine on my skin.
"Oh, I have to write a paper now, wasted the entire day yesterday watching the show. And I have to meet up with Angie later." Caiden let out a laugh.
Just hearing her name caused a sting of jealousy inside me.
"I won't bother you then." I crawled over Caiden and off the bed.
"You can stay here if you want." Caiden suggested.
"No, no." I faked a smile. "I probably have an assignment or a paper I've neglected."
"Alright. See you later then?" Cai asked.
"Uh-huh." I mumbled through my tightened lips and walked out.
There was no way I would sit in my room and wait for him to stop hanging out with Angie. I was a fricking vampire, I had options. I had lots of friends I could spend time with. Even if some of them went to Paris. Screw you, Angie. And screw you, Ian.
I stomped through the campus, feeling a familiar type of irritation take over me. I hadn't fed yesterday, but I was too irked to enjoy my meal. So I headed straight to Barbies and this time, I had a different sort of job for them.
"Chloe?" Pamela opened the door. Her black hair was in a ponytail and her eyes were tired. The sight of the desk behind her littered with books and papers reminded me some people actually had to sleep.
"Are you doing anything important right now?" I asked.
"Uh, I'm studying."
"Aha, so no." I grinned. "Let's hang out."
"What?" Confusion flickered on her face and she glanced behind her. She has just realised she was alone. "But we never hang out."
"And it's a beautiful day to change that!"
"Uh, okay, I guess." She was afraid of me, I realised. And it made sense. For the past five months, she's been finding ways to get me blood and we never hung out.
The only thing she knew about me was the fact I was a vampire. And now she would learn that I was a petty vampire.
"You know people, right?" I asked, feeling like an idiot.
"Some people, yes." Pamela frowned.
"Do you now Angie from Programming?" I leaned against the doorframe. The screen of my phone lit up. Sheila sent a photo.
"Is that the girl your guy is seeing?" Pamela asked.
"How did you know?" I ignored the bite of pain in my heart once I saw Sheila's smiling face next to William and Ian.
There was another person in the picture, a gorgeous, dark-haired woman, with eyes as green as grass and a smile as bright as sunshine. Fuck my life.
