Chapter 20: More bloody than Mary

Avril Lavigne blasted in the background, muting the sound of the treadmill I managed to drag to my room on campus. My messed up mind could come up with only two things at the moment; killing someone or running till the need subsided.

I chose the latter like a grownup, mature vampire I was.

Sweat ran down my neck and cleavage and I appreciated every drop. Perhaps I could sweat out my insatiable need to call Caiden and tell him I miss him and pretend everything was fine.

But I couldn't do that. And I didn't want to do that. It was over, for good. My poor, stupid heart had to get on board.

The door burst open, startling me and almost making me fall off the treadmill. Sheila slammed the door, an outraged expression covering her face.

She dropped her basketball bag on the floor, "William broke up with me." She looked over my running toy. "What the hell is that thing doing in my room?"

I stopped immediately and yelled over Avril, "You were together? And it's my treadmill, don't shame it, it's making me not murder people."

Sheila walked to the stereo and turned the music off, "We weren't together together, but, you know." Her wild hair and her basketball jersey were both sweaty.

Ha, perhaps I wasn't the only one literally running away from my problems.

"I don't know." I got off he damn running thing. "Were you with William? And didn't tell me? Did you sleep with him? How's the vampire sex?"

Sheila dropped on her own bed, "How about you try and tell me?"

I cocked my head, "So you didn't sleep with him. But you were together?"

"We were courting." She rolled her eyes. "Apparently, there's no touchy-touchy before marriage."

My eyes widened, "Did you leave him because you didn't sleep with him?"

"He left me." Sheila spat with unbelievable bitterness, almost like there was no way in hell he could ever leave her. "And you know why?"

"Why?" I was almost afraid she would hit me if I asked.

"Because I'm not a virgin."

"Excuse me, what?"

"I need a fucking drink." She yanked herself off the bed.

An idea emerged in my head, "I broke up with Caiden."

Sheila stopped, "What? But you just got back together."

"Yeah, well, we broke up." I let out a sigh. "Now, how about that drink?"

Sheila's eyes met mine, "Wanna get wasted and make out with some normal, human boys?"

"Fuck, yes."

Sheila and I put on the sluttiest dresses we could find. There were a couple of ways to get over a breakup and this was the most fun one. At least in the beginning. I put on the way too revealing black dress and Sheila put the red one on that made her look like an absolute goddess. A touch of red lipstick and we were ready to go.

There was a place nearby, where we could talk normally until 9PM, that was when the music started. By then, we'd both probably be drunk enough.

It was an industrial bar that turned into a club over night. The high ceilings, metallic tables and chairs with plush cushions on and a scented candle here and there. They made cocktails. Bloodless, but drinkable. We ordered two Bloody Marys. I wanted something that at least reminded me of blood. The only reason I didn't bring it was because I couldn't bring in my own bottle and my purse was too damn small to hide it.
