Vodka helped with the hunger.

And it made everything else worse.

My heart was racing in my chest and my sight became foggy. All of my friends were in the middle of some sort of conversation.

"How come you returned on my birthday?" I shamelessly interrupted Sheila's conversation with Caiden.

"Well," Sheila glanced between me and Caiden, "we were supposed to stay longer. And we had return tickets, but Ian decided yesterday we had to return."

"You went to Paris without me." I stated, staring at the half-eaten cake in front of me. The thought of sweet almost made me gag.

Sheila let out a nervous chuckle, "Uh, you decided to stay here in the last minute. And there were things that needed to be done in Paris-"

"Yeah, like collecting one hot vampire girlfriend." Too loud, too fucking loud.

Everyone turned to me. Including Caiden. And Greta. And Ian.

"I mean," I took in a very deep, very long breath, "Good thing you've invited another beautiful soul to my birthday. The more the merrier."

Sheila lowered her voice, "Chloe, you're a tiny bit drunk."

"Oh, no, I'm wasted." I grabbed the table, afraid I might fall off my chair. The world spun around its axes and I spun to hell with it. "Get me water."

Thomas leaped off his seat and poured a glass of water to me. I appreciated the gesture, even though it came with hidden motives. He made his way to my side of the table and squatted next to me.

"Are you okay?"

"Haven't you heard?" I leaned towards him, almost losing my balance. "I haven't been drinking blood."

"You have some in front of you." Thomas subtly nodded to the only opaque bottle on the table.

I put my finger on my lips to shush him, "Don't tell Ian, but it's only making me hungrier."

Chills crept through my spine and I hoped they were alcohol-induced. A nervous, jittery feeling overwhelmed my senses and I had to focus on something else, because every living breathing person around the table began looking like a tasty burger.

"Don't let her drink more, she needs to sober up." Thomas told Sheila.

"One day back and you're already acting like my dad." I complained but dutifully drank the glass of water he brought me. Thomas went back to his seat, rolling his eyes.

"What do you want us to do, Chloe?" Caiden's voice broke through my foggy brain. I glanced at him, my dear, sweet Caiden.

"Wanna volunteer your vein?"

Sheila immediately cut in, "Chloe! Come on, let's focus on something else."

Caiden simply looked away.

"Fine, what?"

"Talk to me, okay?" Sheila took both my hands in hers and looked at me expectedly. "Tell me how you feel?"

"I'm either going to pass out from all the booze or I'm going to rip into someone's artery. And I know which one I prefer." Apparently, there was such a thing as too much honesty and Sheila's expression proved it.

To her credit, she handled it well.

"Alright, here's what we're going to do." She came even closer to me which I, personally, wouldn't advise. "We'll talk about something else. Do you want to know about Paris?"
