Part 3

LILY'S POV

I'm on the couch watching the TV when hear my phone ringing from the other room so I get up and check who is calling, in hope to be the one I'm thinking about.

Dorito♡. This is how I saved Chris' number and I'm so relieved when I read his name on that screen.

I pick up the phone and the first thing I hear from him is a weak voice: "Hello beautiful, how are you?".

My heart starts to beat ten times faster, but the tone of his voice isn't the one of my boyfriend.

I'm still deep in my thoughts, and hear his voice again, always with the same tone, asking: "Lily? Are you there?".

I shake my head and become conscious again and answer him: "I'm sorry, the line isn't working very well these days, I didn't hear you. Are you alright? You seem weak".

CHRIS' POV

I don't want her to be worried about me, I hear it in her voice that she's anxious, and I don't want to.

I didn't come to Atlanta to work, I took some time off actually, I needed a pause away from everything and everyone, except for her. She has never been a problem to me but I want to protect her from the truth.

Hearing her voice healed me on the inside, I miss her like nothing else in the world, but I can't tell her anything now, not yet.

"What? No, sweetheart, it's just that we are making a new movie and, you know, the first days are the thoughest. The scenes, the script and all that stuff. I'm just tired because at night I have to learn the script since thoughout the day I have no time".

I hope she believes me also because I act for a living, pretending is actually my job. Even though she knows all my weaknesses, and she also knows that I can't lie to her.

LILY'S POV

He answers as fast as he can to my question, he tries to hide his tone in order to make it seem less feeble but, unfortunately for him, I can always tell when he is lying, and this is one of those times.

I prefer to not interfere, I play dumb and pretend to believe him: "Of course, you are right. Please, promise me to take care of you, rest as much as you can okay?"

While saying those things a tear falls on my cheek. It really hurts me to hear him that way and I would die to relieve his pain if I could.

CHRIS' POV

"I promise you sweetheart, I will text you later, now I have to go. I love you".

I had to hang up, I know she didn't believe me, I heard it in her voice, she pretended to.

I heard her voice breaking, that's why I had to end the call. I can't allow to let her suffer for me, I have to protect her, at all costs.

For now she needs to be aware of everything, it's better for the both of us. When something changes, I will tell her everything, but not now.
