Abby runs towards me and I immediately open my arms to her. I hold her close and kiss the top of her head.
"Sweetheart I'm so sorry. I shouldn't of started a fight with you in front of all those people." I pull back and hold her at arms length. "Abigail why would you say the things you did. What happened with Olive is not your fault. I don't blame you at all and you shouldn't blame yourself." I put my face closer to hers and grab her arms a little tighter, not to hurt her but to make her really understand what I'm about to say. "Abby, you deserve all the happiness in the world. You deserve whatever it is that you want from life. And if that's me, I'm right here, yours for the taking. But if I'm not what you want them I understand and I'll let you go. But I need you to know that I want this. I want us. I want a family and life with you."
Leo snuck out at some point because now it's just the two of us. I pull Abby against me again and just hold her while I wait for her to respond.
She finally calms herself enough to step back and talk to me.
"I'm sorry for being so difficult. I'm sorry for hurting you when all I was trying to do was punish myself. Logically I know that losing Olive wasn't my fault but I just can't seem to wrap my head around it emotionally."
"Abby-"
She cuts me off by holding up her hand.
"But I think I would like to try and work through my issues together."
I reach for her then and pull her against me so I can kiss her. She responds right away and soon we're both breathing hard and our hands are roaming all over each others body. But she pulls away and breaks contact.
"Hey, you're distracting me."
"Apparently not well enough."
She lets out a laugh but then goes on.
"Andrew, I want us to be together but I wasn't lying when I said there are so many painful memories associated with you, the house and this city. Now as far as you go, it's not because I blame you, it truly is because I see her when I look at you. Now, I'm hoping over time that will be a good thing. But I don't know if I can stay in that house with the room that is a constant reminder of what we lost. I'm hoping that one day I'll be ready to come back here, to this city, because Leo, Emma and Amelia are here and they're the closest thing to family that I have. But right now, it's just full of bad memories."
I walk to her and take her face in my hands.
"Abigail, I don't care about the house. We can sell it. And if you don't want to live here right now then we can stay in Chicago, travel the world or do whatever it is that you want to do. All I ask is that you give me what little time I have left with my father here. Then I'll follow you wherever you want to go. I'll follow you from this life into the next. You and me. That's all I've ever wanted."
Fresh tears fill her eyes.
"You'd do that for me?"
"Of course I will. Sweetheart, I would do anything for you."
"Thank you Andrew. And of course I'll give you your time with your father."
I pull her against me and kiss her until we're both breathless.
"One more thing."
I take her hand and pull her with me to the elevator. I hear her laugh as she jogs to keep up with me. I can't help but smile, I love that sound.
"Where are you taking me in such a hurry?"
I push the button for the elevator and the door opens immediately. Once inside I turn to her with a big smile on my face.
"You'll see."
The doors open and again I'm pulling her along with me. Only this time, through a crowd of people until we reach one of the therapy rooms. More specifically the therapy room that I first saw her in. I stop in front of the wall with her mural on it. Then, I turn to face her as I take both of her hands in mine.
"Abigail, the first time I laid eyes on you was in this very room. You walked in the room and my world stopped." I push a strand of hair off her face and then keep my hand on her cheek as I go on. "You were the most beautiful, vibrant woman I've even seen. There is something magnetic about you. When I look at you I'm drawn to you in a way that I've never been with anyone before."
I see a tear slip down her cheek and I catch it with my thumb and wipe it away.
"You're it for me. You, Abigail Marie Anderson, make me happier than I ever thought possible. I want to spend the rest of this life and any that come after it with you. As your husband."
I reach in my pocket and grab the ring that I've been carrying around with me since I found out Abby was pregnant. She gasps in suprise and the tears start to really flow now.
"Abigail, will you marry me, so that we can spend the rest of our lives together traveling the world and making babies?"
She's nodding her head yes before I even finish asking the question. Once I get it all out she reaches for me and bends down to take my face in her hands.
"Of course I will Andrew, there's nothing I want more."
We both move at the same time and our mouths find each other and fit together perfectly just like they always do.
Around us people start cheering and once we finally come up for air I see that the room has filled with all kinds of people. Including our friends who all come forward to give us hugs and congratulate us.
I suddenly realize I still have the ring in my hand.
"Abby."
She pulls away from Lily and looks at me. I hold the ring up and she lets out a laugh.
"Opps, I was a little excited."
I laugh with her and then take her hand in mine so that I can place the ring on her finger.
"It was my grandmother's. She would of absolutely loved you."
That brings fresh tears and the sweetest smile to Abbys face.
"It's beautiful. I love it. And I'm sure I would have loved her too. How could I not, she raised an amazing man. I love you Andrew."
I pull her against me.
"I love you too."
