Hinata's POV

Putting the flowers inside the vase, I heard little footsteps nearing towards me. Boruto maybe needs something, I wonder what it is this time. Boruto is 3, going into 4 soon, he has his father's looks and his mischievous behaviour, but he can be like me sometimes (according to Naruto). Now that Boruto's growing up fast, he's learning faster, getting more mischievous, can kinda talk pretty fluently and not baby language😅.

But he's getting curious about his surroundings and the world, so he's asking a bunch of questions too. Last night, he asked Naruto if he's seen his grandfather before and of course...it was an exciting story for him, except the part that his grandfather died and he never got to see him😔.

Tho now, I wonder what he wants.

"Mom, I found a picture of dad and his friends when he was a genin. Look, there's Shikadai's dad, Cho-Cho's dad, Mental's dad, Uncle Kiba and the man who's gonna teach me when I start going to the Academy!!! But..." he stopped for a moment.

"But what??" I asked, continuing to wash the dishes while listening.

"Who's this boy with long brown hair and eyes like yours?" I stopped my movements. I took a look at the picture Boruto has in his hands, eyes widening when I saw who he was talking about.

"Who is he?" He asked again. I took him in my arms and sat on one of the couches, holding the picture with one hand and securingly holding Boruto with my other hand while he sits on my lap.

"He's my cousin, Hyuga Neji, he was from the branch side of the family. We grew up close like siblings so I call him 'Neji nii-san'. He's also your uncle, your Uncle Neji☺." I spoke.

"How come I've never seen him before?"

This question hit me straight in the heart, another family member of his that he's never met because they're...no longer here. Of course I can't lie to him so I have to tell him the truth. It's his uncle he's asking about anyway.

"During the 4th Great Ninja War, he died while...protecting me."

"Awww man...he's dead😔...I really wanted to see him..." he hang his head low with a pout on his face.

"Sorry buddy, but we can go visit his grave tomorrow if you want. I'm sure he'll be glad to see you😊." I suggested, trying to lighten up his saddened mood.

"Yayyyyyy~ I'm gonna bring him a giant bouquet or a whole big basket of flowers!!!!"

I smiled brightly at his words. If Neji nii-san was here, I wonder if he'll be just as excited to visit him at home.

Time Skip (bedtime)

It's time for bed, Naruto's already falling asleep. I couldn't really sleep tho, so I went to the kitchen to get some milk to drink. However...I almost spilled some on the counter when I heard the whisper of a child. Boruto's still awake! At this hour!

"Mom...I can't sleep. I bet anyone could hear dad's snoring from a mile away." he said, still whispering.

"You shouldn't stay awake so late. How about-"

"Counting sheep isn't gonna help anymore." I silently sighed as I rubbed my eyes a bit.

"...mom, can you tell me more about Uncle Neji?"

Boruto looked up at me with curiosity, hope, light and wonder in his eyes. For the fact he wants to know about Neji nii-san, makes me want to cry. Nii-san died protecting me, he died a great shinobi, but I've never been able to not miss him. Even when I'm happy, I miss him...cause I wanted him to be there to see how I've made such a happy family with new, beautiful memories...just he isn't in it. I couldn't help but smile when Boruto asked me that question, so I did what he asked for.

I took him back to his bed and snuggled up with him, ready to tell him a bit more about his uncle.

"Your Uncle Neji was known as the Genius of the Hyuga clan, he was an incredible shinobi and taught me alot. He trained with me and taught me jutsus, techniques and different skills...which tightened our sibling-like bond even more. Almost to the point calling him just by the name 'nii-san' was a normal thing, and he'd call me by my name alone sometimes as well. Besides your dad, your Uncle Neji taught me more than I can ever imagine, and he's also another man I love besides your dad. Neji nii-san took care of me one time when my eyes were damaged too. He never left my side at all for a week until my eyes healed completely."

Boruto's eyes were still wide awake somehow, so I kept telling him more hoping he'd fall asleep while listening.

"You know...there's a special reason why I named you 'Boruto'."

"What's the special reason??" he asks.

"The name 'Neji' means screw, 'Boruto' means bolt, which is another way to say Neji's name. In short, your name is another way of saying your Uncle Neji's name☺."

"Wait...so you named me..."

"After your Uncle Neji. Yes, I did."

Boruto smiled warmly at me and laid his head on my stomach, hugging me too.

"Thank you for naming me 'Boruto', mom." I smiled. Soon afterwards, both Boruto and I were in deep slumber.
