The Tea Lover and The Oblivious Newcomer
[FLUFF]
"Are you new?" The peculiar girl at the most popular tea shop in Ba Sing Se blurted. The awkward boy leaning against the inner wall of the Jasmine Dragon Tea Shop felt his cheeks flush a bright pink. Her dark brown pigtail braids rested on her shoulders. Her wavy hair swayed a little when she got up to sit on the other side of the table she was occupying. He fixed his eyes on the menu hanging above the cashier a little further away. The girl giggled, she could tell conflict between what to look at kept ruining the newcomer's focus.
Her green eyes twinkled slightly as she took a glimpse of her own at the boy. "You don't have to lean on the wall and brood all day. Just sit with me." She teased, snapping the newcomer out of his trance. He hesitantly took a seat across from her, glaring at the cup of tea resting in front of her. "Are...are you a fan of this place?" The boy inquired timidly. "Yeah, I suppose I come here everyday." She replied casually, "I'm also named Jin. It has been nice to meet you so far." The blush on his cheeks darkened as he shook her soft yet cool hand. "Uh, my name is..." Don't tell her your real name, don't tell her your real name. He thought to himself aggressively.
The thing about this boy was that he was more than just an everyday immigrant searching for solitude in Ba Sing Se, he was a criminal. A criminal by the name of (Your name), and he was wanted by the Fire Nation. When he heard Avatar Aang was alive, (Your name) went through a lot of trouble to sabotage Fire Nation trade routes, steal Fire Nation weapons for forces of rebellion, and peacefully convince some Fire Nation soldiers to stray away from their work to name a few. But coming up with a fake name to lie to this girl that he started to have a crush on was going to be excruciatingly difficult for him. Especially since one of (Your name)'s biggest pet peeves was lying.
"Dishonesty triggers nothing but distrust and betrayal," his mother would say before she died from the birth of his younger brother in one of the Earth Kingdom villages. His father either died in the war or has been missing in action since he left home, when the boy was twelve years old and his brother was barely three. (Your name) was nearly seventeen now. It made him think wistfully of his family on and off, about his brother and the hidden whereabouts of his father.
"Uh, Zaofu. My name is Zaofu." He answered. "Well, it's nice to meet you Zaofu. I can't wait to share all of my favorite teas here with you." Jin smiled. "Wait, like drink from the same cup?" The boy self-claimed as Zaofu scowled at the idea. "No, no! We both try the same teas, in separate cups, together. It'll be like a sample...or a sampler. Surely you had something like that in your hometown." She reassured him and raised a brow. "The closest thing to that was when the fruit merchant would be generous enough to give rations of his fruit during the winter months to those who needed it, and transporter work for those who needed jobs. I was one of the people who needed jobs during the winter when my mother died. I had one of those jobs from when I was thirteen to fifteen." The brown haired girl pouted sympathetically and went up to the counter. The boy anticipated what she was doing, hopefully it wasn't telling the shop owner who he really was.
At least, if he was unlucky enough to be recognized in Ba Sing Se... But the boy was completely oblivious to what Jin's antics were truly for.
