Where is it, where is it?!
Tomoko rushed down the hallways as she glanced from door to door. She was looking for Commander Erwin's office so she'd be on time for the meeting he called her in for. Tomoko was only a week in the scout regiment, after leaving the MPs, she joined the scouts at Erwin's request. She was meant to be in section commander Hange's squad but it was still up to debate on where Tomoko would be placed.Ah, here it is!
She sighed out of relief as she was right on time and wouldn't keep the commander waiting.
"Hello sir?" She said as she knocked.
"Come in Tomoko." Erwin's booming voice said through the door. She walked in and saluted after closing the door behind her.
"Take a seat."
As she walked to sit, she noticed another person in the seat on her side of the desk. She ignored them, despite the felt glares.
"Good to see you Yamada. I've called you here to discuss your placement in the scouts."
"Oh, I was just wondering about that sir, as a matter of fact I have a few questions on the topic-" Tomoko started, however was interrupted by the person in the seat next to hers.
"Hmm.. curious aren't we? You'll be a great leader soon enough!" Tomoko glanced over at the person who spoke, seeing a woman with brown hair, sloppily tied in a ponytail, and hazel eyes, glasses over them.
"I should introduce myself, hello, I'm Hange Zoë." She stuck her hand out towards Tomoko, which she quickly accepted and shook hands. Tomoko felt comforted by the news, that section commander Hange, would be leading alongside Tomoko. She had only seen the woman once before. Her constant good mood and blatant insanity always put a smile on Tomoko's face.
"Wait.. did you say leading?" Tomoko questioned, glancing at Erwin as she spoke.
"Yes about that, we decided it would be best for you to lead newer recruits in the survey corps, as your teaching skills surpass excellence." Erwin stated calmly, handing Tomoko a pile of papers. "These here are the squad you'll be leading. You meet them tomorrow. Section Commander Hange will be there as well. That'll be all today. You two are excused." Erwin smiled as he waved goodbye to Tomoko and Hange. After they left they talked for a while and got to know each other."How're you feeling about the whole leading a squad thing?" Hange asked, "nervous at all?!"
"I don't have any reason to be nervous, I trust Commander Erwin's word, and if he thinks I can lead a squad I'm sure I can." Tomoko replied bluntly. She smiled up at Hange.
"Besides, if I need help I could always ask you." Tomoko started walking away, waving to Hange.
"Well, I better get to bed. Big day tomorrow. See you then."
"Yeah, see you then!" Hange waved back in her usual energetic manner.Tomoko was walking through the hallways, still a bit lost, but it wasn't as important to be at her destination this time. She eventually found her room and crashed into bed. Much was going to happen tomorrow and it was all running through her mind. Tomoko meant what she said, she's not nervous, but there's a feeling of dread creeping up on her. Nobody likes dealing with death, Tomoko knows that better than most, but being responsible for that death is something Tomoko is even more familiar with. 100 active thoughts in her mind eventually tired her out and she fell asleep.
Early morning she awoke to a knock on her door.
"Who is it?" Tomoko groaned as she rubbed her eyes, getting used to the daylight.
"It's me, Hange." The girl responded. "You're gonna be meeting your recruits in about 15 minutes are you ready?" She asked. Tomoko's eyes widened as she realized the time.Shit, shit, SHIT!
She didn't have much time to get ready, but even then she managed to get dressed and out the door in 10 minutes. She had forgotten to ask how to get to the training grounds, where she'd be meeting, and assessing, her squad. She swiftly ran through the halls, looking for where she needed to be. As she ran she stumbled and ended up tripping into someone. She got up and started running before she could see who she ran into.
When she arrived at the training grounds she saw a group of 5. Two tall men and 3 shorter women. Hange and Erwin were talking to the group as Tomoko caught her breath and walked to where they were gathered.
"Ah, Tomoko. Just on time." Erwin kindly greeted her as he noticed her arrival. Her squad stopped chatting and glanced over to where Tomoko was standing, as she politely chatted with Commander Erwin. The man towered over her.
"Jeez, the new squad leader's half the size of Commander Erwin." One of the girls whispered to her friend. Tomoko had overheard but it didn't bother her. The comments on her height were frequent, as she was nearly below five feet. Commander Erwin turned to the group,
"Alright, new recruits of the survey corps, Tomoko here is going to be your new captain. I expect you to treat her with the same respect you give me. Now with that being said I'll leave you to introduce yourselves to her. You'll have to get along to trust each other, especially on expeditions, so knowing each other is important. That's all." Erwin said as he signaled to Hange that they would be going. Hange waved goodbye to everyone as they walked away, leaving Tomoko with a smile on her face.
"Well, it sure is a pleasure to meet you all. Normally you'd call me by my last name but as Commander Erwin said, we have to get to know each other to trust one another, so please, call me Tomoko." Tomoko smiled at the group, them returning soft smiles, except for one of the women.
"I trust all of you have enough knowledge about the skills required to be a scout, no?" Tomoko questioned, which they all nodded in response.
"Great! Leaves less work for me. Anyways, please I'd like to know each of your
names."
The first girl spoke up.
"My name is Sadie McRouer!" She said saluting.
The next girl continued.
"Leonie Fischer!" She saluted as well.
One of the boys answered as well.
"Names Jonas Weber!" He saluted.
The final two remained silent, one being the girl who had commented on Tomoko's height.
"I need cooperation from my squad, your names?"
"Amira." She muttered, keeping her arms crossed.
"Finn Schneider!" He saluted enthusiastically.
"Great to meet you all. It may be our first day knowing each other but we still have training to do and Titans to kill, so let's get into our ODM gear and get to work." Tomoko ushered her group to where their ODM gear lay."Let's hustle!"
