*AUTHOR'S NOTE*
I originally did not plan to write this second book. After all, I know well what Thorin Oakenshield's fate is and the end of The Battle of the Five Armies wrecks me each time I watch it.
But, at the same time, I cannot help but wonder what would have happened, had he survived? Arielle is an elf. She knows enough to be a healer, even if she has not formally trained to be one. So, here we are. This is how I see it in the Alternate Universe, where Thorin, Kili, and Fili do not die. As Mythbusters' Adam Savage would say, "I reject your reality and substitute my own."
Again, I'm still learning the ins and outs of both JRR Tolkien and Peter Jackson's worlds, and this combined with my own imagination, means things will be changed—such as the ending, to make it a happier one. At least for now.
I don't know if this will be my last foray into the world of Middle Earth. Other characters have caught my attention as well, but I've not yet decided if they will get their own stories as well or not.
