Storm Born Book One

Chapter seventeen.

Edward calmly walked over to the fire, his wolf wanted nothing more than to shift and rip them apart but he knew it all had to appear as though nothing was amiss he spoke to  Rosalind as he walked through their link.  

"Rosalind, I need you to remain calm and take Nelda to the wagon we are being watched walk slowly do not run, I need them to think that they have not been noticed". 

He watched as Rosalind walked up to Nelda smiling, she bent to whisper into her ear before the two women walked towards the wagon passing him on their way, he grabbed ahold of Rosalind as she passed by and pulled her to him.

"Stay calm, Thomas will protect you" he kissed her softly before pulling away from her, "Rest well Rosalind I will join you later'', His voice sounded over loud to his ears, the stillness of the night seeming to amplify the sound. ''Goodnight Lady Nelda, Goddess keep you both". Nelda bowed her head and linking arms the two women walked to the wagon.

He was greeted at the fire by the stern faces of the elves, Nelda tells us we are being watched, Edward".

"Yes, Thomas spotted them one he identified as being his former companion Liam and the other he was not sure of.  It appeared to be a rogue judging from its eyes it was too far off for me to get a proper scent''. he knew that in very rare cases wolves could have natural red eyes but it was always safest to assume that red-eyed wolves were rogue. "It would seem that Kellen has enlisted the help of a rogue". 

"Then we must be cautious Alpha, Rogues are mad, merciless creatures and unpredictable in battle",  Abrecan added.  

It was not lost on Edward that until recently most would have considered him a rogue, though he had never given in to madness he had been lucky he had the boy to stop him from descending into that hell. Most rogues unless they formed or became part of a pack would go mad, wolves needed the structure and hierarchy of a pack without it they sicken, grow weak, and go mad, or die.

"That means there is one other this Kellen he spoke of out there hidden we shall have to be wary, will you shift"

"No, not yet I will go around them and shift at the last moment''.

Kellen nodded "My brother and I will guard the camp with Thomas in case Kellen puts in an appearance, take Abrecan and Acwellan with you"

Edward nodded "We must make it seem that we are settling for the night.

He and the elves sat for a while before one by one they left the fire to settle in their bedrolls seemingly for the night. After what he judged to be a good half an hour, he peeled back the covers and crept to the horse line where the two Elf warriors were already waiting for him. They nodded sternly waiting for Edward to take the lead. 

"We will circle them and wait downwind, When we attack I will shift. it is best to do this at the last moment sound travels too loud on the plain, especially at night I do not wish to alert them that we are present until the last moment. he whispered low not wanting his voice to carry. The two elves nodded in agreement, it seemed surreal that such seasoned warriors would take orders from him, he had no experience to speak of, why should they trust him he thought as they crouched low to the ground and moved out.

The two wolves crouched low hiding themselves in the tall plains grass, Liam licked his muzzle nervously for the first time in his short life he was afraid. Kellen's wolf Keros was muttering to himself constantly, his muscles twitching, drool covering his muzzle in frothy globs, and dripping from his fangs. liam could see Thomas from their position, he seemed to be standing guard of the wagon.  He had thought he may be a prisoner but it was clear now that not only was he not a prisoner he seemed to have joined them and was trusted to stand guard. he shook his head if he could only get away from Kellen he would try to join him.
