Earlier that day.......
Choking, his voice coming in wheezes as he tried desperately to answer "n...argh no...", his hands clutched at the hands wrapped around his throat desperately trying to claw them to get an iota of space to catch his breath. Fear ran through him making his body convulse with shock, he had had several beatings over the last few weeks some because he could not seem to keep his stupid mouth shut, some because he had been caught out slacking off, this time he was trying to catch a sight of his mate instead of following the boy like he was supposed to be doing. This time he truly thought she was going to kill him.
The others stood silent behind her, as she screamed into his face, but what she was saying barely registered to him.
"P...p...please c...c..c com...argh"
her claws extended digging into his throat, At some point he was vaguely aware of Cole placing a hand on her shoulder but by then he felt dizzy, spots forming behind his now tightly closed eyes. If he was to die he thought, he did not wish his last sight to be her face, he wanted his face before him, Ethan's image to be the last thing his mind saw before the Goddess came for him.
"Jean enough"
In his short life, he had not known much of love, not since his mother had died but he was convinced he loved Ethan, he felt it even if they had never spoken, his only regret would be that they had never spoken. He felt himself becoming limp in her hold, it was like he was floating it did not even hurt anymore. Cole's voice echoed in his head.
"enough Jean."
She must have let go then because air flooded into him in heaving gasps as he slumped to the floor. he opened his eyes slowly and saw Cole pulling her away from him. shaking his head he tried to regain some sense of coherency but sounds were still coming to him disjointed and distant
"...Said"
he shook his head again and the sounds of shouting slowly became clearer to him,
".....enough Jean what the hell do you think you are doing?"
He risked trying to raise his head, his two seniors were arguing fiercely, and the others were at the other end of the tent keeping their distance and not involving themselves. after all, why would they step in to help him he was no one of importance to them. He contemplated shifting he would heal faster in wolf form though compared to other wolves it would still be painfully slow. lifting his head he forced himself to take another look around the tent perhaps he could escape. As he scanned the tent he noticed that the others though standing silent and at attention looked shaken, it was in their eyes even if they did not register it on their faces.
He tried to haul himself up from the floor but his legs would not allow it. He just about managed to sit leaning back against the leg of the table and glanced towards the door. It looked tantalizingly close and he considered escape before reminding himself that at that moment he could barely sit let alone run. what was going to happen now? he had never seen Jean so angry if he had hoped to sway her fanatical adherence to their mission he had surely been mistaken, he could see now that nothing would convince her not to carry out their orders.
The moment the first words had left his mouth she had flown at him from across the room her eyes flashing golden as her wolf came to the fore, if he had hoped to make her see sense then he had failed miserably. But what now, could he do nothing? he supposed that in the end he would be killed. ''how would they explain my death'' he wondered ''Accident? or just decided to run away.'' his breathing was slowly returning to a more normal level, enabling him to pay more attention to the two arguing in front of him.
