Dice woke up in the Devil's bed the next morning, he looked around frantic and confused, he sighed in relief seeing that was still dressed. The last thing he remembered was passing out in his boss' arms, after sobbing and being a big baby, he got up and slunk back to his room, not wanting anyone to get the wrong idea, he took a quick shower and got dressed, then he went down to the Casino floor. He sighed, seeing everything deserted and unkempt, he went to the supply closet and pulled out the cleaning cart, deciding to start with the front. He hummed his song softly as he worked, completely zoning out as he did, blissfully unaware that the Devil was watching him from afar. That was until he was bent over the craps table and the Devil came up behind him and smacked his ass, "Good morning Dice."
Dice squeaked softly, and turned to face his boss, "Mornin' boss."
"Did you sleep well? I hope you didn't mind but you passed out crying in my arms and I kinda figured you didn't want to be alone so..." The Devil started, for the first time in a long time not sounding confident.
"I did, and it's fine boss. Sorry, I was bein' a big baby yesterday, I would've sorted myself out though, you coulda left me," Dice said, though he knew full well he wouldn't have.
"I doubt you would have Dice, I read your thoughts, so don't you lie to me. You're fucked in the head Dice, and I may have been mad at you, but even I know that playing with someone's trauma is a bit far. Well, unless they're being tortured in Hell." He says with a smirk, looking down at his long time crush and fuck buddy.
Dice sighs, "I should get back to cleanin' if we want to be able to open by tomorrow."
The Devil tilts his head, "What?"
"Unless you've fired or replaced me, I'm still the Casino manager, and it's my job to make sure we are up and running flawlessly, I can't get us back open today but if I work all day and through most of the night I can have us ready to open tomorrow at the regular time, I don't know where the other employees are but if you do could you send them out here so we can speed up this process a bit?" Dice said, he had always focused on work to run from his feelings, building houses of cards around himself to try and seem perfect, and most believed his front, most thought that he was heartless and mean, but the Devil knew otherwise, he saw through those houses like they weren't even there.
The Devil laughs, "Last night you revisited your trauma and you aren't even phased today? I call bullshit."
"I work to run from memories boss, you know that more than anyone. I don't face my problems until I've got no other choice. You know how much I drink on my worst days, you know everything about me, you're the only one I let know everything about me. You're the only person I've let myself care about. So, I work extra hard for you, I would have given up my life for you fightin' those cups, but they stopped when I was near death. That's when I heard you and realized you didn't give a damn about me, maybe you never did, it was just some elaborate ruse to gain my trust. And I hate to admit that it worked."
"Dice, I do care about you, I really do. I was angry when I said that, I didn't think. I don't know how I'd run this Casino without you, but I do think you should take a break from your constantly busy mindset and just relax."
"Boss, with all due respect, I did relax, I relaxed and just ran a blackjack table at a casino, and no I ain't proud of the fact that I had to flirt with the owner to get where I was. Nor am I proud of how he grabbed me when you came. So, thanks for comin' when you did, otherwise I have no idea what condition you would have found me in. "
"Dice, did you actually relax? Or were you constantly doing something to keep your mind off me, and the Casino?"
King Dice didn't answer, he just huffed and went back to cleaning.
"Dice, answer me, that's an order."
He sighs, "I was constantly drinking and letting Mr. Ghin try to get into my pants so I could forget about evrythin'. So I could forget about you, what you said, those stupid cups, everythin'. Happy now?"
"So cold Dice, are you really still mad at me?"
"You want the truth?"
"Don't I always?"
"Yes, I'm still mad at you. You called me a good for nothin' lackey for cryin' out loud, you betrayed my trust. And... I loved you. I really did, and I know better than anyone that if you want to hurt someone, you do it from a place of love. I'm havin' trouble believin' that you don't know that. And I'm havin' a harder time thinkin' that I'll ever be able to trust you again. I don't care if you apologize, I shoulda known better. Demons can't love so why the hell would you? I never shoulda let myself catch feelings for you." Dice said angrily before throwing down the rag and stomping up to his room, the Devil sighed as he watched him, feeling shocked and hurt, he hated to admit that Dice was right, he did know that the best way to hurt people was through love, and Dice had managed to punch him right where it hurt, his words dug deeper under the Devil's skin than any bullet ever would. He needed to make it up to him, he needed to gain his trust and love back, because he still loved Dice, and more than anything, he wanted him to love him back.
