Chapter 14- Alex

Alex's PoV:
(You'll find out Alex's thoughts and what he is hiding!)

I stand at Aaron's door, it's silent in there, so I'm wondering whether he's in there or not. But I knock on.
There's a moment and then I hear

Aaron: Come in!

Aaron is smiling, sitting on his bed, but I don't question it. He did just film a video and he did seem to have some sort of moment with Veronica.

Aaron: Hi Alex, what's up?
Well I think there's no point in dragging anything.
"Nothing, just really wanted to ask you something."

He tenses up a bit. He knows what's coming. Well, he has an idea. But I decide to switch the subject slightly to catch him off guard.

"How did you find the collab? Would you collab with the twins again?"
He doesn't take a minute to even think.
Aaron: Definitely! I loved it! We had such a blast, I don't think there was a dull moment. Everyone was so happy!
My plan is working!
"I noticed you were happier then normal as well. I hope we collab with them again. They're really cool people!

And then there's silence. He's kind of just staring into space. I want to interrupt, but he might not hear me.

And then he looks up at me.

Aaron: Alex, what do you really want to ask? You're not very good at hiding curiosity.
I guess he is my older brother, and he can read me well, or I just can't hide my curiosity, like he said. But I give in.
"Okay, fine fine, you got me. I wanted to ask about Roni."

I saw the way them two looked at each other. Their chemistry, it's like they already knew each other.
But I just really want to know what's happening with them.

Aaron: Yeah... what about her?
It almost sounds defensive. He definitely is hiding something. So I say the first thing that comes to mind.
"Are you twooo..."
I don't even finish.
Aaron: No Alex. No.

Oh well. I really got my hopes up. I was secretly hoping they are together. I guess not.
I guess we have no choice but to dig further.

"Well then, what was that at the ball?"
It seems like he tries to think up an answer in the brief pause between our answers.
Aaron: What was what?
He knows exactly what I'm talking about. I'm his younger brother, I can annoy the answers out of him. It is my job after all.
"When you two looked into each other's eyes like some couple in a romance."

Honestly, it looked like they had some magical fairytale moment. A moment only I could wish for.

Aaron: I did not think it was that romantic... besides, it was nothing.
He definitely knows it was something. LIAR!
"If you say so... but I definitely saw something..."
I can tell in his eyes, he knows exactly what I saw. He knows I saw.
Aaron: Of course you did.
But he plays it off well. Well, as good as Aaron can go. I'm ready for this argument-debate thing. I am not giving in.

"Actually, I'm not stopping this convo here, there was definitely something."
The end of my sentence is met with a brief pause. He thinks about what to do. And then I know I have succeeded in this part of my questioning!
Aaron: Okay, fine fine. Our eyes met, we had some sort of a moment. But I think it might have been her acting. The twins are actresses. And anyway, it was just us looking at each other's eyes.

A fool! Trying to trick me. He knows Roni wasn't acting. How do you even fake such a moment like that. I felt it in my heart when I saw them.
"That was definitely something. And it was definitely not acting. Even Lauren and I can't make a moment that convincing."

AN//: We're going to skip to the car scene now because this is getting long and we need some drama.

Aaron has left, and I'm alone. I'm not sure what to do at this moment. However, after a little bit, I see Roni sitting at a table looking slightly dazed but anxious. And not long later, I see Aaron.
I can't see much of what is happening, but instead of focusing on them, I make an important call.

She picks up quickly.
*facetime will be in italics (slanted)*

"Hi. Are you alone? Or are you able to talk?"

??: Yup and yup, what's up?

"I need some help with figuring out what's happening."

??: Okay, give me the tea.

"So, Aaron and I were talking, we were talking about yknow, 'the moment'."

??: Yes... the one between those two oblivious beings?
"Yup. But anyway, when we were talking, Aaron all of a sudden says that Roni needs him urgently, and he knew exactly where to go and stuff. HE DIDNT EVEN CHECK HIS PHONE!"
The speed of the conversation quickens. It's so hard to get everything out when you have a lot to say and you're worried you'll miss a detail.

??: Are you sure he didn't check? Because that makes no sense if he didn't.
"He didn't check! I promise! Why do you think I'd be calling you right now? However, he did then say he saw the notification on his mac book."

??: Was he using his mac at the time?

"Nope. Wait-"

??: It would've logged out. He lied to you. He's definitely hiding something. They're both definitely hiding something. We can solve this.

And then Aaron comes up to the window and knocks. I quickly switch my phone off. I'm so nervous. He definitely saw me switch my phone off. But I don't know how I can escape it. My seat is reclined back, I just had my phone out, it looked like I was on facetime. If I didn't act as suspicious, I would've been able to play it off!

I open the door.
Play it off cool man.

"Oh, hi Aaron. You've already finished?"
Aaron: Nope. Just came to give you your order. Who were you talking to?
Come on Alex, don't mess this up.
"Thank you [I grab my stuff]. I was just talking to Lauren."
Go me! No nervous indicators!
And then he hits me with
Aaron: Can I say hi?
He knows. Just like I knew. He knows. What to do? Alex, what do you do?

"You can't... because the call ended."
Good comeback, Alex. But seriously? The pause? He knows, and you're making it worse for yourself.
Aaron: I know that call wasn't Lauren.
Uh-oh.
Aaron: You ended that call, and you ended it quick.
Stupid move, Alex.

Aaron: Who were you talking to, Alex?
I stare into his eyes, it's the only thing that seems about right in this situation.

"Okay fine. I'll tell you..."
