Luna's P.O.V

When my eyes opened it was still dark out. I sat up and looked around. It was about 5:00 outside. I could see the sky was a little light outside through window. I heard Ryan snore and I smiled. I stood up and walked to our food supply. We were low so I decided to go out and hunt. I grabbed my bow and arrows, opened the door and started running. It was chilly out. Winter was coming. It seemed like it would be really cold this winter. I'll have to raid soon. Maybe I'll take Ryan with me?

I heard a rustle to my right. I turned and shot. A pair of antlers came down. I walked over to it and saw a young buck. I knelt down and took the arrow out of its chest. Its eyes were open so I closed them. I grabbed my knife from my pocket and started cutting. I couldn't take the whole thing. He was big.

When I was done I ran away as fast as I could. I never like cutting big animals. Rabbits and squirrels are easy because I can take the whole thing. I shook my head to get rid of the thought and slowed down to a jog. I heard something in a tree. I found my target and shot. A squirrel came tumbling down. I smiled. This was going to be an easy hunting trip.

When I got back around 2 hours later I saw Ryan pacing around the fire. It had not been lit, figures. When he saw me he ran over and hugged me. "There you are I didn't know where you were. I was so worried." At first his arms felt weird around me. But then my body remembered the touch and I hugged him back. "Sorry I didn't know you would wake up. I had to get some more food." He let me go and looked at the bag behind my back. "Ummm ok I'm not hungry anymore." His face of disgust made me laugh "Well then I guess you'll starve." I walked over to the fire and dropped my bag. I looked over my shoulder at Ryan. "You probably weren't worried about me. You probably thought I left you."

I walked into the shed and put my bow and arrows down. I turned to walk back out but I bumped into Ryan. "No I didn't think that. We're friends remember. I was worried about you." He looked sincere. I sighed "I was just joking." I tried to get to the door but he blocked me. "No I don't think you were." "Can we talk about this later. I need to make breakfast and we're heading out right after." His face turned to shock. He moved out of my way and followed me out.

I started a fire and put some meat on. When I was done and comfortable on the ground he spoke "We're leaving?" I looked up at him "Yes." He sat down next to me and looked into my eyes. Why now? We're perfectly fine here." "Yeah we might be fine now but those dogs will track our scent soon. We need to get as far away from the police as possible. Here is not it." He looked down. I think he understood.

Soon I smelled burning meat. I grabbed them off and gave a piece to Ryan. We ate in silence. I listened to the birds chirping. When we were both done I put the fire out and went inside the shed. I put the blankets in a bag and my clothes and belongings in there too. I grabbed my bow and arrows and walked outside. Ryan was standing with the food bag around his shoulder. He grabbed the only bag I had. "I can carry that." "No I'll carry it. You have your bow and arrows." I looked down and grabbed one of the food bag straps. "We'll hold this one together because its heavy. And this might help you keep up with me." He smiled. "Well lets get a move on." Together we started running into the tree's in the morning light.

"Can we take a break now?" I heard Ryan whine. I sighed "Sure." Immediately he ran over to a fallen tree and sat down. I laughed. The only time he ran fast was when he found something to rest on. "No come on this time we're going to walk, not sit." He moaned, got up, and started walking beside me.

We have been doing this all day. Sometimes we would run really fast and play around until Ryan got tired and we had to walk or jog. Other times he just had to stop and sit down. It was about 4:30. Soon we would have to find a place to sleep. I also needed to find a road so I... we can raid.

I heard him panting beside me. "Jeez you are so out of shape. What do you do know in P.E read?" He laughed "No I actually don't have P.E. I'm in this like rich school and they think P.E is a waste of time." I said "Oh." "But I do jog. Sometimes when I'm really pissed at my parents I go out and jog." "I don't get it, how can you not love your parents I mean, they gave birth to you." He sighed "I already told you, they don't care about me. All they care about is money." He looked at me "You must not like your parents either if your here."

I froze. Ryan kept on walking until he realized I wasn't beside him. He looked back at me "What?" I stared into his eyes, then looked down. Tears threatened to come, but I held them back. Ryan jogged over to me and lifted my chin. "What?" he repeated. "I do love my parents. Very much." He looked confused "Then why are you out here?" I looked into his brown eyes. "My parents died in a fire. No one would take me so I had to go to an orphanage. I..... I was so upset I couldn't stay there so I broke out and ran into the woods. Now I'm here." I started walking.

He turned me around and hugged me. "I'm so sorry I had no idea." I pulled him back at arms length "Its ok. I'm fine now. Come on lets keep walking." He looked into my eyes. "Ok. Lets go." We started walking again. I looked up. It was about 4:50 maybe 5:00. It was getting dark, that I know for sure.

Later on I told Ryan we better jog to get somewhere before it got to dark. He agreed. As we were jogging I heard something. I stopped dead in my tracks and grabbed my bow and an arrow. Ryan stopped and said "What now?" When he saw my bow in my hands he immediately became alert.

I looked around. There it was again. It sounded like a whine or someone whimpering. I turned around to where I heard a noise. I saw a hollow tree trunk. I slowly walked toward it. "Careful." I heard Ryan whisper. Soon I was standing right where the whole in the tree was. I took a deep breath. I bent down with my arrow pointing in the hole. I was surprised at what I saw.

In the hollow trunk was a small black wolf pup. It had a tiny face, body, feet. Everything about it was tiny. It saw my arrow and whimpered. Its little body was shaking wildly. It didn't move. I heard Ryan say "What is it?" I threw my arrow and bow to the side. I stretched my hand out. "Come on, its ok come here." I whispered, afraid it would run away if I spoke loudly. The little pup's ears perked up. It stretched its neck and sniffed. Then it took one step then another. Soon it was in reaching distance. I grabbed the little pup and pulled it out into the open.

Ryan saw it and his mouth dropped. The litte wolf puppy started whining and barked very softly. "What about its mother? The mother could come any second." I shook my head. "This puppy was all alone I think its mother may have passed away." "Or she abandoned it." Ryan added. I nodded. I held the little pup close to my chest to keep it from squirming and getting loose.

"So what now?" I looked into Ryan's eyes. "Can we keep it?" I asked him "Please, please, please." He raised his hands up. "Hey your the leader here. Whatever you want is up to you." I started jumping up and down. "Yes, yes, yes!" My new puppy became more distressed since it was bouncing around. "Oh sorry little baby its ok." I started stroking its back. "What is it?" Ryan said. I looked at him. "What do you mean?"

"Is it a boy or a girl?" "Oh." I turned it over to look at its belly. I smiled "Its a girl." "Oh great." I walked over to him. "What should I call her?" He looked at me and shrugged. "I don't know. Do you want her name to be something about nature or do you want a normal, original name?" I thought about this. "I'll call her Shadow." I looked at her and started petting her little head. "Ready Shadow?" I asked her. I saw Ryan's hand come over and stroke her back. "Ok lets move on." I put shadow in the backpack Ryan was carrying.

He looked at me. "Do you want to hold her?" I shook my head "Its ok. I still have my bow and arrows." "Ok well lets move on its getting dark." We started jogging. I fell behind him so I could talk to Shadow. Her head was sticking out of the backpack so she could breathe. I was so happy. Will this day get any better?
