Chapter 8

Luna's P.O.V

I jumped up and ran quickly to my food I started shoving everything in a bag. Once I was done with the food I threw the bag at Ryan.

Apparently his reflexes were really slow because the food came out of the bag when it dropped. "Pick that up." I snapped at him. "Whoa,whoa,whoa whats up where are we going?" he asked. I didn't have time to answer his question. "Just pick that up will you."

I went over to my bed and grabbed my things and some lightweight blankets. I could still hear the barking in my ears. When I was done with that I carefully threw my stuff on to Ryan's bed.

I backed up and looked at my camp, my home. Should I do it? I asked myself NO this is your home Luna you can't do it my heart told me Luna you must or else the dogs will find it and catch your scent my brain reminded me. I sighed. So far I've listened to my brain, and I'll listen to it now.

I grabbed the lighter out of my pocket, started it, and set my mattress on fire. I ran to grab my stuff and backed away. I could barely hear Ryan say "Luna what are you doing!" "Shhh" I said in a whisper voice for if I spoke loudly I was sure I would start crying. I could barely hold them in now. I watched my home blaze furiously like my small camp fire reaching to lick the meat.

Again I heard Ryan say "Luna why did you do that? Explain!" Hearing his voice a rush of hatred went through my body. All traces of crying gone. This was all his fault. He came after me and decided to go missing. Knowing he had money so his family would find him. He was probably leading them right to me!

I turned and started running. I didn't look back until I realized that Ryan had the food. I turned and ran back. I saw him attempting to catch up. "Come on!" I yelled at him. I had to take him. I couldn't just leave him and have the police find him. He'll just tell them want direction I went.

The bag I put the food in was a satchel so he had it slung around his neck. I grabbed the rope binding his hands together and pulled him. I... We had to get out of there and fast.

Ryan's P.O.V

We were running for hours. Luna never stopped so we could take a quick break. She just kept pulling.

As we ran I would trip and she'd yell at me to hurry and get up. I didn't know what we were running from. I don't know why she burned the camp down. I didn't know anything! I didn't know if we'd ever stop running. I didn't know when we would eat. We just ran and ran and ran and ran.

My neck was getting sore from holding all this food. I wasn't even running correctly which made it really difficult. My arms were in front of me instead of beside me, and they were tied together instead of being free. I was really tired.

I tried to show Luna that I was not tired at all like she was but it didn't work. I could almost hear her saying You city boy can't beat me. I've lived in the woods. Done this my whole life. It didn't seem like I was impressing her so I just did what I always do.

We didn't talk for the whole way. It started to get dark outside. I hoped we were almost there. I was so hungry and thirsty and tired.

My eyes were halfway closed when we stopped. I opened them drowsily and looked around. There was nothing here. I was disappointed. I thought there would be a nice warm house where we could sleep in comfort.

I watched Luna. She was walking in front of me. Then I saw her open something and disappear. My eyes opened up immediately. Where did she go? It was to dark to see anything.

I started walking forward with my hands up in front of me so I didn't run into anything. My hands felt around until they landed on wood. I kept feeling until I felt a knob. I turned it and went inside.

I was in a little rundown shed. Apparently Luna had some candles; I still don't know where she got those, and they illuminated the room. There were 2 beds with mattress's but no blankets. I was still disappointed but at least I had a roof above me.

I found Luna on one of the beds nibbling on some Doritos. She looked sad. Well thats what you get when you burn your camp down I thought. I wanted to wrap her in my arms and comfort her, but we weren't that close. So instead I put the food down and sat next to her. "I'm sorry." I said.

All of a sudden she pushed the Doritos behind her and stood up. "You should be!" she yelled at me. She grabbed 4 blankets out of her bag and threw 2 on my bed and 2 on her bed. "Get up your beds over there." She instructed me.

I got up and saw her start to make her bed. "Wait aren't we gonna eat somthin first?" I asked. She grabbed a few Doritos and handed them to me. "Enjoy." she said sarcastically. I didn't understand what she was so mad about.

She started walking towards the candles. "Wait whats wrong why are you so mad?" She looked at me and said "Goodnight." and blew out the candles. I was in darkness. With the image of tears running down her face in my mind.
