"So you told me there were seven of you in the Sidemen, where are the other four?" I asked Harry the next day.
We were making dough together and had spent the entire shift getting to know each other better.
"Pizza Hut of all places! They're a crazy lot, I could never choose Pizza Hut over Dominos." He said with obvious distaste.
"So is this going to be like a Domino's vs Pizza Hut type video?" I asked in response.
"Kind of... I think we might be able to milk a few videos out of this whole experience to be honest. To make up for all of the time we're putting in. So probably yes to your question but we'll also maybe do a bingo one mixed in and then just like an overall vlogging one documenting the experience... I dunno we've never really done anything like this before." He said and before I could ask him what bingo had to do with it all he answered.
"Bingo being tasks like... Somebody has to get yelled at by the manager or like purposely eating a slice of a customer's pizza in front of them before handing it out, things like that. The team that does the most tasks wins." He said with a grin.
"We've really milked the bingo idea but the fans seem to like it so who are we to stop?" He said trying to shape the dough into a circle. What was it with Harry and not being able to shape things into circles that was so funny to me?
I contemplated the idea of playing YouTube bingo and getting paid for it and couldn't believe just how lucky these boys were. It was very clear how seriously they took their channel though, already planning for videos weeks in advance and constantly trying to outdo themselves.
I found myself ridiculously impressed by every word that Harry was saying when he talked about YouTube. You could tell that he'd really put in the work and valued his job and the rest of the Sidemen very highly.
"So do you get along with everyone then?" I asked and watched his reaction. If I was expecting any drama I didn't see it in his expression when he answered.
"I genuinely do yeah, they're all great guys and all bring something different to the group and maybe that's why it works so well." He answered with a smile and I smiled back, glad that he was comfortable enough with me to share these details of his life, even if it was just surface level.
"You know... that dough needs a little bit of work." I said grabbing it out of his hands and showing him the technique again to make an even circle.
"Yeah, yeah we get it Hailey." He mocked before he flicked a bit of flour at my face.
I stood there mouth agape, completely shocked for a second before retaliating with a large flour handprint on the back of his shirt.
"Oh well if we're doing that!" He said dipping his hand in flour and hesitating, leaving his flour coated hand a mere inch from my ass.
"You wouldn't dare..." I said laughing nervously and watching his hand out of the corner of my eye.
He brought his hand back up slowly and I couldn't help but notice the tension between us. I wasn't sure if he could feel it too or if he was just mucking about but for me there was definitely a spark in the air between us. I didn't have much longer to think about it though because he quickly took off my hat and smushed the flour all throughout the top of my hair.
"Harry Lewis I'm gonna kill you!" I screamed and he laughed and held his hands up in feigned innocence.
His mood quickly changed as he saw something over my shoulder and he quickly started walking so that he was between me and whatever it was that he saw behind me.
"Sue incoming." He whispered as he passed and I quickly jammed my hat back on my head and walked straight to the bathroom before she could see just how unprofessional I looked.
In the mirror I could barely recognize myself. The top of my head was absolutely covered in flour and I had to shake it out of my hair and into the bin for at least five minutes before I was satisfied with the end result and I looked normal again.
I grinned at my reflection in the mirror as I replayed the scene with Harry back in my head but I was quickly brought back to earth as somebody knocked loudly on the bathroom door.
"Hailey I know you're in there and despite Harry trying to cover for you I saw both of you mucking about." Sue yelled through the door and I sighed at my reflection before opening the door to face the music.
"Look Hailey I've worked with you for years now and I know exactly what you're like but that was out of order."
I nodded and apologized immediately.
"I'll let you off this time but I expect you to keep it professional, remember that they're here to film things and you don't want to give anybody an excuse to say that Domino's is a bad company." She finished and started to walk away.
She definitely had a point. I had no idea how much content the boys were going to put in their videos and that last thing I wanted was for me to let the entire company down.
I walked back over to Harry who was waiting anxiously and I gave him a friendly shove.
"How is it that I ended up with flour in my hair AND I got told off?" I teased him.
"Sorry Hailey, I took it a bit far. Let's get back to work yeah?" He said and I agreed.
The rest of the shift went by quickly as we continued getting to know each other and filmed a few small things for possible videos.
By the end of it Ethan had walked over to us and looked like he had far more energy than both of us combined.
"We still on for tonight Harry?" He asked him and Harry groaned.
"Fuck I forgot it's Thirsty Thursday." Harry said while taking his hat off and ruffling his hair.
"Lad you promised me you'd come on a pub crawl for the past three weeks, I'm not letting you bail again!" Ethan said and looked to me for a second.
"Hailey's coming too right?" He asked and I looked to Harry and back to Ethan for a second, shocked that I was invited.
"Uh, yeah I can come." I said trying not to sound too excited.
"Great! Now you have to Harry! She's been showing you how to work and now you can show her how to drink!" Ethan replied with a smirk and walked off over to KSI and his clique of girls that seemed to follow him around the store wherever he went.
"Here, chuck your number in." Harry said handing me his phone and I tried to suppress the butterflies that were currently taking over my stomach.
After typing my number in Harry grabbed the phone and stood right next to me with the camera in selfie mode.
"Oh no no no, you're not one of those people who has a photo for every contact in their phone are you?" I said trying to wriggle away from him but he grabbed me and pulled me in next to him.
"Yes I bloody am, now c'mon. Smile." He said and I reluctantly obliged, kind of happy to have a photo of us, even if I looked like absolute shit.
"I'll pick you up at like 8." He said glancing at his watch.
"Just message me your address, I've sent you a text so you know it's me." He said and I looked down to see an unknown number pop up on my phone with a smiley face as the message.
:)
"I'll see you later." He said as he walked over to the others and I said goodbye before absolutely boosting it out of the store. Thankfully I lived close by and it was still light outside because it was just past 7pm and I was supposed to get ready to go out in less than an hour's time.
I ran most of the way home and tried to pick out an outfit in my head the entire way. I had no idea what to wear and not a lot of time to figure it out.
I got home and dashed straight into the shower with a huge smile on my face. No matter how nervous I was I knew deep down, I was more excited than anything.
