Destiny's POV

I sat by the bar taking another sip from my glass savouring the taste since I knew I was only allowed two drinks tonight, being that somebody had to be sober enough to keep watch. It was a sad and depressing reality to know that we as women had to be on guard even in the moments that were made for us to relax and let go.

The reality was even more depressing when you realised that no matter the situation the blame was always going to be shifted onto us.

My gaze went to my best friend Aliyah who was dancing in the arms of a man on the dance floor enjoying herself and even though I came to do the same thing my body was not up to follow through.

No matter how much I tried to avoid these situations I always ended up in them since my overthinking mind never failed to kill any intentions I had for the night, leaving me to be the girl sitting alone by the bar each time. All the tension from the different aspects of my life continued to gather together leaving my mood to decline drastically as a sigh left me.

At this point, I was aching to go home but I knew I couldn't, being that I was the sober one and the designated driver for the night.

Samantha's POV

"I'm going to get a drink," I told them as I walked off while silently wishing I hadn't shown up since my body was already drained from work.

I moved over to the bar slowly, pushing my way to the crowds of sweaty and heated bodies while resenting the flashing lights and blaring music that only seemed to increase the regret I felt about coming here.

I reached into my back pocket grabbing my wallet as the bartender moved over to me, the intensity of the music being lower by the bar.

"A cold red stripe," I voiced, placing the money on the counter as I returned the wallet to my pocket and he nodded walking away.

My gaze moved to the other end of the bar to see a familiar face sitting in the corner as the bartender placed my order before me, and I said a small thank you while sitting down to take a sip of my drink with my gaze never leaving her as my mind searched through my memories trying to figure out where I had seen her before.

After a few seconds, I pushed the feeling of familiarity aside as I decided that she was probably someone I saw or met before I got locked up and time removed my ability to place a name.

I took down a mouthful of my beer watching as a man approached her and she released an eye-roll, the sight pulling an amused smile from me while also voicing her lack of interest. I watched as he greeted her and she quickly shot down his advance, her rejection pulling a frown from him but nonetheless, he decided not to give up and I could practically feel her annoyance from across the bar.

A small frown settled on my face as I watched her grow uncomfortable and I stood up while simultaneously lifting my beer.

I began walking to the other end of the bar as my mind settled on a way to disrupt the exchange between them both.

"Whose this babe?" I asked the minute I got there, inviting myself in their exchange as I placed my beer on the counter while wordlessly explaining myself to her with my eyes.

"Joshua," She replied and I turned to face the man, happy she caught on as the smell of lavender in the air brought to mind where I had seen her before.

"Nice to meet you man," I voiced, holding out my hand with my level of confidence increasing once I realised that the only thing he had over me was height.

He took my hand hesitantly and I held his in a tight grip as I shook it slowly before allowing my hand to fall to my side.

"Is he an old friend?" I asked her

"No,"

"So what are you doing over here?" I asked, directing my question to the man.

"I was just getting a drink," He voiced, flashing a smile and the slight fear in his eyes increased slightly as he walked away.

"Thank you," She voiced from beside me as I stared at his retreating figure with the hate I had for men like him who didn't understand boundaries standing firmly in me.

"You don't have to thank me," I replied while turning to face her and my actions left my own gaze to align with her eyes that gradually became engulfed with what seemed to be realisation.

"We met this morning at Johnson's delivery in the elevator?" She questioned but it sounded more like a statement.

"Yeah, we did," I replied smiling.

"Are you here with somebody?"

"A couple of friends, you?"

"Same, you wanna keep my company? You know just to make sure nobody else disrupts my peace" She questioned, her boldness catching me off guard.

"I would love to," I replied with my smile still present.

"Do you want something to drink?" She asked generously as I sat down.

"No, I'm good," I replied and she nodded before turning to the bartender. I used the opportunity wisely to appreciate the red dress she wore that stopped mid-thigh while grabbing every inch of her perfectly sculpted body.

My gaze moved back to her face as she looked over to me once more with her recently re-filled glass in her hand, and I watched as she took a sip before placing it on the counter.

"I'm Destiny by the way," She introduced, placing her hand out and I took it in my grasp shaking.

"Samantha, but everybody calls me Sam," I replied while releasing her hand.

"Nice to meet you Sam," She expressed and I smiled enjoying the way my name sounded coming from her as I took another sip of my beer.

"So what brought you here? Cause this is obviously not your scene,"

"How are you so sure this is not my scene?" She asked.

"Because if this was your scene you wouldn't be sitting in a corner by yourself, you would be with your friends," I voiced, watching as her eyes ran over me shamelessly.

"What looks like my scene?" She asked, biting her bottom lip to mask a smile and I chuckled, finding the image alluring.

"Based on the two times I've seen you, I'm guessing at home with a glass of wine while you watch your favourite show or catch up on work," I replied, meeting her gaze and she released a small laugh.

"Okay,"

"So I'm right?"

"Yeah," She replied and I smiled, taking down some more of my beer.

"So is this your scene?" She asked.

"Do I look like that type?"

"If I'm being honest, if you had asked when I saw you the first time in the elevator I would've said yes, but after actually talking to you I'm going to say no,"

"So what is it about me?"

"Your appearance, I expected a completely different personality from you," She explained gazing at my tattoo filled arms and I chuckled while taking another sip from my beer as silence fell between us.

"I'm really happy I'm seeing you again," I voiced since I was completely intrigued by the woman.

"Really?"

"Yeah your locs really caught my attention," I voiced playfully as she sipped her drink before releasing a smile.

"And your locs has a great smile too" I added and she snickered before turning her body to face me and the movement had her knees pressing against the side of my leg gently.
