My classes were dull and boring today. The rain was hitting the windows, hard enough to distract me from class. Maddie's click was still here. But Maddie wasn't there. I had to get up and walk around before I fell asleep. I asked the teacher to go to the bathroom. He allowed me to go. I grabbed the pass and headed down the hallway. I tried texting James a few times but none of them went through. I wasn't sure if it was the building or his phone. A door slammed shut and echoed throughout the hall. Heavy footsteps could be heard. I quickly ran and hid behind a corner. Two voices could be heard. "I've been looking everywhere for you." The girl whined.
"Stop talking so loud! We need to keep quiet." A man spoke. I slowly peaked my head around the corner I was hiding in. My eyes widened. It was David and Maddie. I hid back behind the wall and listened carefully. Maddie made a noise. "So, Holly is still alive. I thought you weaken them by taking her out as well." My hand covered my mouth. She was a traitor!
"I didn't see you showing up to the fight." He growled. "Who's at school today?"
"Just Cody, protecting Jessica. James and Holly are not." Maddie spoke softly.
A chuckle echoed throughout the hallway. "Leave Jessica and Cody. We have bigger fish to find." David said.
"To find Holly? I know where she lives..." Maddie's voice trailed off.
"Not her." He hissed. "I found James already. He was sneaking around your house." My eyes widened. James went to go investigate alone! "He's sitting in a cell now. He's not going anywhere." David laughed.
Maddie laughed a little. "I'll go have my fun then. What will you be doing?"
David's footsteps were getting closer. My heart was racing. What if he found me? I would have no way of telling Holly or Cody where James was. "Keeping an eye out." The bell ringing made me jump. I looked around the corner. They were both gone. I raced back to the classroom and grabbed my belongings. A piece of paper fell to the floor. It was folded in half. I slowly opened it.
You know where he is. Come alone or he dies.
The address was underneath. I was panicking. James was in trouble. I had to do something. They were watching me. Somewhere, they were making sure I wasn't going to have help. I grabbed my backpack and walked straight out of school. I didn't find Cody or tell him. I secretly texted Holly. Giving her one clue to where I was going. After that, I shut my phone off and headed to the address. My heart was racing. I hoped he was alright.
After three bus trips, I finally made it. There was a giant gate in front of this place. There had to be another way in. Before I could walk, something grabbed my shoulder. Cody and Holly were both standing there. My eyes widened. "You guys can't be here." I whispered loudly.
Holly rolled her eyes. "You're lucky I'm smart. Cody lost you at school." He silently looked at the ground.
I was half panicking. "No, you don't understand. They have James. They told me they would kill him if I didn't come alone."
Holly's eyes widened. "They have James?"
"He told me he was going to check this place out. But I told him I should go with. But Jessica wanted to go to school." Cody spoke. My eyes went to the ground. No wonder he was so against it today. He was trying not to go alone. This was all my fault.
My body sunk to the ground. "It's all my fault. I should have just stayed home." Holly pulled me back up. She turned and smacked Cody. Cody stood there in silence. He didn't object to her hitting him.
"I would have gone but he told me to stay home and rest. Which I did." She rubbed her arm. She looked like she felt bad as well.
"Are you going to be okay fighting?" Cody asked.
