He's Back! But as our Den Mother?

Chapter 1: Kicked

~Third POV~

After riding Earth of the Reach the Team returned to the Watchtower. The League gave their speech and left the team to their business. The air was stiff, emotions were high. Resentment towards the four members who lied to them all was filled in everyone's mind. It was quiet, way too quiet.

Superboy stepped forward breaking the silence, "Why? Why go to that extent to lie to us! Kaldur, Artemis, M'gann, Wally! They all almost DIED because you couldn't share with everyone." He walked to the hero in back and blue, grabbing the collar of his suit.

"Connor, don't blame just Nightwing. We all agreed to it, we all knew the risk." Artemis responded by grabbing Connor's arm. He looked at her with his usual angry face.

"We all know it was his idea. We all know how much the Bat's like to put others at risk and not themselves." Connor said, tightening his grip.

"Nightwing was the first one to volunteer to go undercover. He hated the idea of sending us in while he stayed with the team." Kaldur tried to calm their super friend down.

"He's right, but we all agreed that Nightwing was needed here. You guys needed your leader. Do you even know how much we all had to sacrifice to save your lives." Wally said, stepping forward.

"It doesn't matter who's idea it was! You guys are still in the wrong! How could you not tell us that Kaludur was still on our side and Artemis was still alive!" Bumblebee said putting her hands on her hips.

"I did what was needed to succeed, which is what we did AND with no casualties." Nightwing said, ripping Superboy's arm from his collar. "I'm sorry you feel betrayed, but nothing can be changed." This seemed to hit the nerves of most of the team.

"Are you kidding me! How are you so arrogant! You blew up the cave, you kidnapped La'gaan, and you lied to your friends!" Wonder Girl yelled from the back of the huddled teens.

"Blowing the cave was a sacrifice we needed to take." Nightwing responded by shrugging his shoulders, "It was just a place."

"Dick! We almost died. You almost drowned!" Superboy yelled into his face. "And don't say the sacrifice was worth it, it wasn't. Plus how are you going to try and justify kidnapping La'gaan."

"It was either that, or I killed him. I didn't have the choice to let him go free." Kaldur responded this time looking over at Lagoon Boy. "And I bet La'gaan is happy with the choice I picked." La'gaan looked to the floor.

"Guys, we don't really have a reason to be mad at them. Their plan sorta saved the world. Yes they lied, but for the sake of the mission I see no problem with it." Robin said, trying to stick up for his brother. The team looked at him.

"Of course you would stick up for him." Impulse added. Robin looked pissed. Of course he would stick up for his brother. His loyalties lied with his family before his team. Yes he loved the team like family but they were not the ones who took him in after his parents went into witness protection. He owed Nightwing a lot, so no shit he stood up for him.

"Why do we even keep this traitor around?" Connor snapped. Each word felt like knives digging into Dick's heart.

~Nightwings POV~

I knew the team would be mad at me for faking Artemis death and lying about Kaldur and kinda giving consent to blow up the cave, but this is ridiculous. I did what I needed to save their lives and the world. I have never treated any of them like this before. I know I should not have hidden the truth from them, but my plan worked. The Light is in shambles and the Reach have been kicked off world.

"Why do we even keep this traitor around?"

I felt like I was being stabbed. Why did it hurt so much. I can't count how many times I've been stabbed, but why did this hurt so much?

"Connor's right, he'll most likely lie to us again. He's the reason we lost so much. Best to just kick him." Jaime joined the conversation.

What? I'm being kicked? I'm a founding member! I made one plan, was it bad...sorta, but that doesn't excuse the fact that they are being dicks! What would Batman think if he knew I was being kicked from MY team. He's gonna think I'm weak. I looked around to see my friends, well who I thought were my friends nodding in agreement. Kaldur, Tim, Arty, and Wally looked like they were going to kill all of them. Hey, at least I know who my true friends are.

"Are you serious! You are going to fucking kick him off because he made ONE mistake!" Everyone's attention was brought to Robin, they have never heard him curse before...it was kinda scary. Heck, the only time I've seen him curse was when Bruce took his coffee privileges away when he tried to give himself a coffee IV.

"Robin, if we can't trust him he shouldn't be here." Gar said, walking over to the bird. Arty and Wally both stepped forward trying to say something before I cut them off.

"You're right, if I'm so untrustworthy after saving your lives then I don't belong here." I said looking them dead in the eyes, this was going to be hard. After every mission, every sleepover, every memory, I guess it's finally come to an end. "I hereby resign from the Young Justice Team and my role as leader of the team. I hand my position back to Kalder." I said, taking a deep breath, trying to hold back my tears for when I'm alone.

"WHAT!" Artemis screamed, "Dick, you can't leave the team." she was now grabbing my arm. Her family was once again falling apart.

"It's fine, gives me a reason to go solo anyway." I said, faking a smile. "You guys just try not to miss me too much alright." With that I turned to the Zeta Tubes and for the last time the team would hear called out...

"Nightwing B01" a robotic voice echoed through the Watchtower. And just like the old days, the former boy wonder disappeared.
