When your roommate invited you to a party held by one of the frats on campus, you were excited. You hadn't had much luck in the friendship department since coming to a college far, far away from your hometown. Everything was wildly unfamiliar. It was like there was an unwritten code that everyone else knew to follow, but you hadn't been given your copy. There were things you just didn't understand about this place, and it resulted in a general difficulty to make friends. Hell, even your first roommate was moving out the second the room switch period opened.
You were lucky, though, that Natasha, the roommate that came after, was much...Well, maybe not kinder. She was a little cold, but she seemed to treat most people like that. But she at least didn't outwardly hate you or make you feel lesser than. And she was inviting you places! That had to mean she liked you, didn't it?
Then again, she all but abandoned you shortly after you arrived to the frat house. She led you in, giving you a quick introduction to some of her friends. Wanda was kind, all smiles, while her boyfriend Vision was a bit unnerving. Kind, too, but unnerving. Thor was loud and embraced you in a tight hug. His brother, Loki, gave you a curt nod before going off to get himself a drink. Tony shouted a "hello!" before he ran off somewhere with Pepper. Sam gave you a hug, saying that if you wanted to have fun, you should hang out with him. Everyone was so nice that, for a fleeting moment, you thought you'd found a place you belonged.
But then came Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes. They were all piercing glares and thinly veiled snarls. Looked you up and down like you were less than the scum on the bottom of their boots. When you asked Nat about it, she whispered that they just are a little hesitant to outsiders, that they'd warm up sooner or later. Then she disappeared, being tugged away to dance with Monica and Yelena.
Everyone in the group dispersed, going off to their own thing. You stood around for a moment, considering if you should take Sam up on his offer or if you could join Nat. But, then that worry that they all secretly hated you bubbled up, so you found yourself retreating to the kitchen, looking at the drinks set out before settling on a Heineken.
