"Hey boys," Natasha said, sliding into a chair at the table where Steve and Bucky were eating breakfast. "You got something planned with your girl today?"
She hid her smirk well when they both groaned. It was a well-kept secret that Nat wasn't fond of you. She'd pined after Steve and Bucky long before you, the meek little secretary Stark had hired, had even showed up in the picture. A girl like you couldn't handle a single super soldier, much less two. But her? A trained spy? She, who has survived and survived and survived? Not only could she handle the boys, but she deserved them.
"Nah, she's out with a friend from out of town," Steve said, sipping his orange juice.
"Ugh, can you believe that shit?" she said with a dramatic roll of her eyes. When they stared at her, confused, she added, "What? You haven't noticed that Y/N's been out more and more? It's awfully suspicious, if you ask me."
"What do you mean?" Bucky said, his eyes narrowing. He was more protective over you than Steve, she'd noticed. She figured it had something to do with not having a lot for so long, that he developed an intense devotion toward you that would be hard to break down. But that didn't mean Nat couldn't try.
And try she did. "I mean, come on, Buck. You're not clueless. How long has this 'friend from out of town' been around?" Nat asked, using air quotes around friend-from-out-of-town. "Like, two weeks? Who even is on vacation for that long? Have you met this girl?"
"Guy," Steve corrected. "They're friends from college. He's just job searching right now, and she's showing him around the city. Trying to help him get connections."
"Oh she's probably showing him a lot more than just the city," she snarked, cocking an eyebrow. "Listen, just don't be surprised when he gets a job in the city and she's off galavanting with him and suddenly you two are wondering why she's coming home at four in the morning, smelling like another guy's cologne, wearing marks that neither of you gave her."
