Yeona was going through one of those situations where you know you need to wake up but you are having the best sleep in your life. She felt warm and comfortable. Without opening her eyes, she felt the soft blankets that were draped around her body. Her sensitive ears picked up the sound of birds chirping happily.
She couldn't remember the last time when she was that comfortable.
She opened her heavy eyelids after quite a struggle. She immediately squinted when the bright light went straight inside her eyes. Her slender fingers rubbed away the remaining sleepiness. She reluctantly sat up on the unknown bed she was in. It was quite surprising how safe she felt inside an unknown territory.
As her head cleared up, even more, she finally took in her surroundings. She was inside a small cottage with minimal furniture inside. A look of recognition dawned upon her puffy face. She had visited this place already. The night of the full moon.
It all made sense.
Seonghwa's strange blue eyes and brute strength. The wolf that had saved her the last time was the same person who saved her last night yet again. The big wolf which looked exactly like her apart from their eyes was Seonghwa. He saved her twice. He surely couldn't be seen as a threat anymore.
Could he?
Her small fingers curled around the grey blankets. She pursed her lips realising why she had let her guard down. The wolf inside her had grown familiar with Seonghwa's scent. She didn't need to keep her guard up around him any longer.
She pulled the blankets off of her body and climbed down from the bed. Her eyes swept over the empty place while she wondered where the owner could be. Her silver orbs fell on the snowy forest just outside the window. Memories from last night flashed through her mind making her shiver in disgust. All of a sudden, she didn't want to stay inside the cottage any longer.
She quickly shuffled towards the wooden door and almost broke it in the process of getting out. Her bare feet landed on the soft snow. Now that she had gained her energy, the cold didn't bother her anymore. She looked around, trying to locate any presence around her. The last thing she wanted was to run into another wolf or worse, her own pack.
Her ears picked up the sound of water flowing nearby. She followed her instinct and slowly walked towards the sound. Her feet left a trail of footprints behind her. Her eyes took in the beauty of a winter forest. Despite the trees having no leaves, they still appeared mesmerising. She never thought winter could look so peaceful.
Yeona soon found herself in front of a fairly clearing. Her breath got caught in her throat as she came face to face with a frozen lake. It was a scene that she only imagined during sleepless nights back at her pack. Yet, she could never really picture it only through the description of the storybooks. Now that she was physically present to witness it, she could feel her eyes tearing up.
She immediately closed the small distance and got down on her knees right in front of the frozen surface. Her lips were parted in awe. Her fingers sunk into the snow as she leaned forward to get a better look. She could see her own reflection against the smooth surface. Her long, silver hair looked unkempt. She had bags under her eyes and her cheeks looked a bit hollow.
But the more she stared at her reflection, she could see that her eyes looked more lively. The pain that she always carried in those dull eyes of hers was absent. Perhaps, running away from her pack was the right thing to do. She was never meant to stay with the wolves. Humans made her happy.
Her slender fingers traced the edges of her reflection with a soft smile on her lips. Yet, her smile dropped as she remembered that she had left Felix again. He must be feeling betrayed. Despite the countless promises she left him in the end.
