Chapter 11: Diablo's Past

Humiga ako sa bed habang si Diablo ay nakaupo sa bedside ko. Kanina pa ako nag hihintay na sasabihin niya yung nangyari. I just want to make things clear because this will be affecting our future battles. Communication is the key, right?

"Most of the devils had multiple masters but me, I only had 1 previous master" he said at napaupo ako sa sinabi niya. Kaya ba sabi ni Raven kanina na it'sbeen thousand years??

"Woah so I'm your 2nd master?" I asked

"My second and my last. Raven's current master is his last and he'll be promoted into King. After this Blood Link, I'm going to be the Emperor of Hell." he explained

"Devils are born from hatred just as legend says, and I was born from a curse that made my rank rose up when I was born. I grew up in hell, eating human remnants until thousand years ago while I was eating, someone summoned me, a cheerful lady from Ravaryn Island." he said at humiga sa paa ko dahil ako ay nakaupo na ngayon. I looked down to see his face. He looked sad.

"At first, I was not happy but later on, that lady became my happiness. To complete our Blood Link, I only wanted happiness and she did gave it to me. At that time, Ravaryn Island is isolated and poor. We didn't even attend the academy because my master was just like you, a lower noble. I didn't mind at all, until a couple of nobles visited the island." he added and signed

"They ordered a lot from every family that made the island happy. They stayed for days and for the first time, Ravaryn Island was lively. When the nobles decided to go back to their homes, they held a feast. All foods was free and was very mesmerizing. Some ingredients were not found in the island which made the people curious. People ate and was celebrating but what I realized upon watching the feast was-- the nobles were not touching anything. I dropped the food that I was eating." 

"What happened next? The people were poisoned?" I asked and he nodded

"I like eating human foods. Honestly, I can eat 2 huge cooked pig in a day. Napansin ko na unti-unting natumba ang mga tao. Devils, angels, and spirits were vanishing -- which means that their master is dead. Some vanished first before their masters. Basically, that food was to poison humans and their taming guardians. The nobles walked away ang laughed while we're struggling. I looked for my master and saw her looking at me while she was laying on the floor." he responded at umalis siya sa pagkahiga at umupo

"My master was dying and I was about to vanish but I also have the poison. I may not die but I'll suffer for long but I didn't care as long as I can save her." he added

"She ordered me to drink her blood to get my poison out. She said she read it somewhere. When the taming guardian is wounded or in pain, the only medicine is the master's blood. That's why the link between humans and us are called Blood Link. It's a binding vow. At that time, my pain was killing me from the inside at napahiga ako sa tabi niya. I was shocked when a drop of blood went to my mouth. It turns out she slit her hand with a knife to let me drink her blood." 

"I'm so glad I met you she said and she died. My pain elevated but there was nothing I can do. I vanished and went back to hell. Since that day, I promised myself that if I'm going to be summoned by a new master, I will only be drinking blood to immunize my body from any harm. In that way, I can also protect my master"

His eyes glowed and he said "That's why I hate nobles"

That explains everything. I didn't know he was suffering from a mental pain. I guess it's not only for humans huh. They suffered too and they must have suffered more than us, humans. Diablo only witnessed 1 death so how much more those guardians who encountered countless deaths. I can't even imagine how to bear that pain.

"I see. Sorry for asking such... painful memory" I said while looking down kasi nakahiga pa rin siya sa paa ko

Umalis siya sa pagkahiga at umupo at humarap sakin. 

"You're stronger than my previous master, I'm sure you'll be fine" he replied

"But I won't make the same mistake" he added and I nodded

"And let's not talk about this ever again" he added with a cold voice

"Deal" I replied with a smile

Humiga ako at pumikit. This bed is so comforting, para akong nakahiga sa clouds.

"Hey, Lotus" he called so I opened my eyes

"Do you think its the right decision to stay here and be an adventurer? I know this is you parent's dream but.." he said with a sad tone

"Are you scared?" I asked 

"I'm not scared of nobles, its just-- I can't handle death because of a crime. I know humans will die eventually but I want humans to die naturally." he answered

"Even the nobles with wicked doings?" I asked and his expression changed

"The world is unfair, Diablo." I added. He looked down on me with a cold expression.

I knew it well. This is my second life after all.

"If that's the case, then at least I could give you a long life and wait for your death. You'll die in a natural way. You'll have a family. You'll be happy. That's all I can promise." he said coldly

"Family huh" I whispered at pumikit ulit ako.

"I don't have any plans on having one" I added

I died as a virgin so in this life, I will gladly die as a virgin. 

"You don't want to make a family? That's a human's habit, right? Kahit overpopulated na, humans still want to make babies" he said and I laughed.

"It's because the process is fun to do. Although I did not experience something like that, its just from what I heard" I said and chuckled

"Well, the process is addicting" he answered at nawala yung tawa ko. Did he just said addicting??? 

"H-How..." di ko man lang matapos yung tanong ko

He smirked at tumayo tsaka naglakad palayo.

"You don't have to know. Forget what I said."
