Inertia

On the other side of the forest, I waited for the exam to begin.

According to what I know about my opponent, he has a dog-like quirk that enables him to have abilities similar to dogs.

How the hell am I supposed to go against someone with a dog-like quirk when I'm based around physics? I scratched my head at the thought of it.

I heard Hound Dog let out a loud ground shaking howl that signified that the exam started.

"Aw, shit. Here we go." I whispered, stretching. He's going to be able to track and smell me out faster than I'll be able to find him.

I grabbed some dirt and rubbed it over my suit and my face...even though I didn't want to. "I hope this is enough to throw his scent off even by just a little bit."

I took a deep breath and started to scale a tree to try and gain an insight into where the hell he is. I have to find him before he finds me.

"I don't have the time for this." I hopped down from the tree and began to focus on changing this reality to work in my favor.

I need to speak my decisions into existence, and I need to do it quickly.

"I want a clear path to the gate." Like clockwork, the path I needed opened up for me. Another ground-shaking howl told me that he was close and that he was going to find me.

This time it was closer and more intense as if he was growing angry. I'm glad he wears a muzzle. "I need to keep quiet."

Sheesh, and I thought Mr.Aizawa was scary...he is. Both of them are. I released some of the friction underneath my feet so I can move faster.

I heard growling coming from my left side and a snarl, "I'm not going to let you win that easily. I want a proper fight."

A sudden knock on the dirt left me gasping for air. To get me off my track, he deliberately crashed into me sending me down a steep hill.

During my fall, I slipped and fell into some thorny bushes. My ankle rolled off a rock and was scratched, causing extreme pain.

Every fiber in my body wanted to give up and go lay in the dirt. Yet I can't lie there and fail. My mind is screaming at me to get the fuck up and pass this exam.

My goal is to be a hero. This is exactly why I applied for this hero course. Until I can get to the other side of those gates or handcuff my opponent, I cannot call myself Inertia.

I can't tell my classmates that I gave up and played in the dirt like a child. What would I tell my mother?

Worst of all...Bakugo would be right. What would he say to me? He'd probably call me a fucking loser or a failure.

Why am I thinking about him in times like this? Stop it, Y/N.

Even with my ankle throbbing in pain, I got up and climbed back up the same hill that brought me here.

I got back on my path and waited for him to show up.

"If you want a fight, where are you?! I don't have all day." I called in an attempt to elicit a response. "Perhaps you're giving me a free pass," I laughed to aggravate him further.

I heard him snap and say, "Free passes aren't in my inventory." He used a tree to pull himself up off the hill and stand in front of me intimidatingly.

To slowly stop his movements, I was slowly applying friction to his feet.

"You have less than 13 minutes to pass this exam, and I will consider you a threat unless you convince me otherwise."

I have to trick him somehow. "How can I convince you? I need him to stop moving."

"That's not going to work. Words aren't going to do anything. Actions will determine strength." He started to have trouble picking up his legs.

"But what if my opponent begins to slow and his weights become heavier. What're you going to do?"

"Fight." He replied, practically barking at this point. "Stop stalling. Time is running out."

Using gravity and friction against him at this point, I asked, "How can you fight me if you can't move your body?"

"What do you mean? " He tried moving, but he was stuck in place.

"My words result in actions I want." I took the handcuffs off his belt and cuffed him. "What do you mean?"

"When I was saying my opponent is weak, I was speaking it into existence so it can project onto you. It's a form of physics called reality warping."

"You are a bright student with a lot of great opportunities coming to you. I'll call medical assistance for your ankle. Good job."

My ankle slowly began to swell and hurt even more. The headache started rolling in as soon as I deactivated my quirk.

I was able to prove myself wrong. I moved past that mental block that has been holding me back for a while.

With no doubt in my mind, I can call myself Inertia.

Within minutes, I was on a cot being transported to the nurse's office. It wasn't just me there. Bakugo and Deku were there being treated too.

"Okay, dear. I'll give you some pain medicine." Recovery girl replied, opening her pill cabinet. He shouldn't have knocked you like that down a steep hill. That could have been fatal."

"I'm just glad that I'm sitting here today." I yawned. Laughing, she said, "That's good. These pro heroes need a limit. Anyway, get some rest. You deserve it. I'll make sure your ankle gets the best care."

"Thank you." I closed my eyes and got one of the best naps I've ever had in a long time.

I felt a light tapping on my shoulder followed by a little shake. "Hey, dumbass. Wake up."

I threw the sheet over my head and turned to the other side. "Wake the hell up. We have to go." Bakugo tore the sheets off of me.

"Bro, what do you want?" I groaned, sitting up. "Are you alright?" He asked, helping me sit up.

"I'm fine. Why? Wassup?" I rubbed my eyes and looked at the cast around my ankle. "I knew you were going to get hurt."

"I still passed the exam. I was able to handcuff him." I said, trying to stand. "Be careful, dear. Your ankle is still in recovery. Give it 2 weeks. I'll go get you some crutches."

"Yes, ma'am. Thank you." She left the room and left me in here alone with Bakugo. I don't know where Midoriya went.

"Did you pass your exam?" I asked. "Of course I passed. What type of question was that?"

"A simple question."

"How did you twist your ankle?" He asked. "I was running towards the path and he knocked me off track and down a hill. I think it rolled off a rock."

"Here are your crutches, dear. Enjoy the summer break." I thanked her and we left. Masaru came and picked us up.

I don't know how we did it, but we both fell asleep in the backseat. I guess we were both exhausted from our exams.

I find comfort in being here. Relaxing for once. After a stressful day, I can stay here for hours.
