Author's POV
In the morning, Beca woke up in an empty bed. All she could her was the sounds of birds chipping and Max barking from the kitchen. "Chloe?", Beca shouted out. She assumed Chloe was in the bathroom so she got up and went to the kitchen to feed Max his breakfast. "Baby, I need to get to the store!", she said as she walks down the hall to go to the bathroom. But when she opened the door, the room was empty. In fact, the room looked the exact same as she last saw it last night. Worried about Chloe, she starts calling her. Straight to voicemail. She calls again. And again. Again. And again. She probably left like 20 missed calls.
She walked around the house to see that it was all neat. Maybe she went to get groceries, Beca thought to herself. Not thinking too much about it, she went to the bathroom and got ready for the day. After her shower, she went to get dressed but then she noticed, half of Chloe's clothes are gone. Her shoes? Gone. Beca went to Chloe's safe and saw that her passport's not there. Shit, Chloe, please don't do this.
Beca rushed to her car and drove straight to Cindy's house, hoping to find her there. She's driving above the speed limit, her fingers tapping anxiously on the steering wheel with Max in the passenger seat. Once she got there, she ran straight to the door and knocked 50 times in a row before Cindy opened the door. "Beca?", Cindy asked. She was shocked to see the young girl's pale face, panting, just trying to catch her breath. Beca let herself in, asking if Chloe's around but when she walked to the living room, she found not only her parents, but even Emily, Aubrey and Stacie was there. "Guys?", Beca's voice trembled.
"Are you okay? I thought you were gonna go with her", Emily said.
"Go where? With who?", Beca slowly sat down. "I woke up, and Chloe was gone. Her clothes are gone, passports, shoes, everything!", she added.
"Did she not tell you?", Aubrey asked.
"Tell me what?", Beca replied. Everyone went silent. No one had the heart to tell her cause they know it'll break her. "Cindy?", Beca slowly turned her head to Cindy, who's eyes are all teared up. "She went, Beca. She went to UK for the job. She left early this morning, the sun wasn't even up yet", Cindy placed her hand on the girl's back. "No, you guys are fucking with me. She wouldn't just pack and leave", Beca said. "She came here before she left and asked me to give this to you, I thought you knew", Cindy passed her an envelope. Tears ran down her cheek, Beca took the envelope and open it.
Dear Beca,
When you're reading this, I'm probably already in the airplane. I got a call after you went to sleep from the university. They were telling me that I need to leave now or they're going to pass the job to someone else. I wanted to spare you the heartache. After the call, I knew what I had to do. I turned over to see you sleeping, so peaceful and calming. Wish I could live in that moment forever. But I can't. I need to do this. I'm sure you would understand. Please forgive me for leaving. I left all the documents and keys, you can have my apartment, the car, anything that's mine, it belongs to you now, mi amor.
Beca, you are so full of love. And light. And you have so much ahead of you. I don't wanna get in the way of your dreams and your future. You're so young and you'll be wasting your time with me. As much as it hurts me to say, please don't come running after me. This is a choice I have to take. For us. I'll be back for you one day, I promise. I'm sorry for everything I've done. And I want you to know that, I love you, more than anything in this world. I believe that you can achieve anything you set your mind to, my love. I'm not going to ruin that for you. Take care of Max for me, okay? Be happy, always. I love you.
Your love,
Chloe.
