"Minho, check this file and-"
Chan barged in , interrupting Yeonjun and startling all of them. It didn't took a second look to realise that Chan was full on panic mode and super tensed.
"Sir , is everything okay?" Changbin looked at him.
"Minho and Izumi, leave the headquarters as soon as possible." Chan demanded.
"What?" Izumi's voice held enough ridicule for Chan to get the fact that he needed to fully explain what was going on.
"I just had a tip that people and reporters are going to surround the building in a few minutes. They will demand answers from you both since you are in charge of the case."
"The public makes me mad." Yeonjun muttered under his breath.
"And I know that you both have been working hard but they don't and if they get to you then they will definitely raise questions and shame you. I can't let that happen as a senior!" Chan was worked up.
"If they raise questions then we will answer them but just leaving right now won't help with the situation!" Minho answered back.
"And they might, in fact, start to protest infront of the building." Izumi added.
"But you don't understand! I have seen enough such incidents to know that they will just shame you. " Chan was frustrated. "What will you even answer them!?"
"Sir, we are in charge of the case and we are accountable to the public. Please allow us to face the press." Izumi asked instead.
Chan took a deep breath, he was scared about the outcome of this. He definitely didn't want his officers to get hurt but he knew that they both wouldn't back down either.
"Then..do your best!" Chan patted their shoulder and on cué, the shouts of people protesting outside the building reached them.
Changbin looked through the window and there was a huge crowd.
"We will go and meet the press and public now." Minho excused himself with Izumi as yeonjun and changbin threw thumbs up at them.
"Min, don't worry." Izumi held Minho's hand in hers as she caressed it .
"I am not worried." Minho stated.
"You are. You are literally fiddling with your hands and tapping your foot continuously. " Izumi chuckled. "I know you."
"Woah they are just too many." Minho looked ahead and saw hundreds of cameras and people waiting for them outside the headquarters and security struggling to keep them outside.
"You ready?" Izumi asked Minho who nodded.
The duo walked out and instantly the crowd went ballistic. Screaming and shouting for justice and yelling how the police is useless. The crowd held various posters to support the victims and infront were the reporters and huge cameras recording the whole thing or were live, they wouldn't know anyway.
"Please calm down." Izumi requested. "We will answer all your questions."
At that the shouts seemed to die down a bit and reporters came forward with their questions.
"It has been over a month and police had failed to catch any suspect! What do you have to say?" One reporter scoffed.
"We are working on the case , the whole team is investigating but we haven't found enough evidence to arrest anyone. Please understand." Izumi replied as politely as possible.
"So what actually did you do this whole month? Cry about having no clues?" Another reporter asked.
"Sir-"
They interrupted Izumi.
"If criminals intentionally left clues then why would we even need the police?"
"We need the police because people like YOU can't catch criminals." Minho 's voice raised a bit, it made the crowd even more restless.
"Are you trying to mock our job or-"
"Yeah." Minho deadpanned .
"No, he doesn't mean that " Izumi meddled in , giving a sharp look at Minho. " And sir, before you invalidate all our work let me tell you again that the investigation is going on."
Minho groaned in annoyance.
"What are you investigating if there's no arrest yet."
"Oh my god!" Minho was angry and he was about to lash out but Izumi was faster than him, again.
"Well, I guess you don't know but investigation is the process. It is not the outcome, please don't make things harder for us . " Izumi smiled sarcastically. "How do you know we are not working hard? You don't even know the actual way the murders happened. "
"We have been working day and night, our teams have been patrolling the city all the time since the murders happened, we have questioned over 100 history sheeters and investigated over 30 people who could be the next victim or were suspects. So, how do you know we are not working hard? " Minho answered shutting off the reporter.
"Now if you all are done asking us questions, please leave and don't crowd the entrance of the headquarters." He further added.
"But-"
"Because we are dealing with other everyday cases as well and it's an inconvenience if you stop people from coming inside the building for work. As esteemed reporters you all should know better. " Minho got up and went inside leaving Izumi who bowed to the people hurriedly and made her way inside.
"Minho what the fuck?" Izumi looked at Minho in disbelief as they took the elevator.
"What? Please don't start with anything like 'you shouldn't have done that' shit! I wasn't wrong."
"No you weren't but-"
"Can you stop for fucks sake now!? STOP being annoying atleast right now!" Minho hissed.
"Yeah okay whatever." Izumi had finally reached her limit, the reporters had already put her on a bad mood and now Minho. She walked out as soon as the elevator reached the floor, straight up heading to Chan' s office.
Minho let out an exhausted breath, regretting it but he was too frustrated and it hurt his pride to instantly apologize so he decided to do it later.
He entered the room only to hear that Chan had dismissed the group for rest of the day to clear their minds and take some rest.
Minho waited for them to go to the parking so he can apologize but much to his dismay they weren't alone since yeonjun and changbin went along. Minho decided to swallow his ego and apologize Infront of them.
"Hey Izumi, I am sorry. I didn't mean it like that." He looked down at his feet.
"Yeah it's alright. Anyways, I will be going now. " She replied.
"What?" Minho immediately looked at her. His heart sinking, The date.
"But we-"
"I don't want to go , I am already tired so yeah. Sorry." Izumi gave a nonchalant smile to him and Yeonjun and changbin before getting into her car and driving back to her home.
She was tired, exhausted? Yes but tired enough to not go on their first date? No. She was pissed and now wondered if she actually was annoying. So, she knew it was better to call it a day instead of accompanying Minho half heartedly.
Minho's face fell, he had planned so much only for it to be ruined.
His heart ached at how soon everything turned upside down, their first date got cancelled over him taking out his anger on Izumi.
He got into his car to drive back home and glanced at the small bundle of flower he had bought for Izumi. Letting out a sigh, he started the engine.
