Dear Diary,Today was Reaping Day. I wasn't planning on volunteering to go into the Games until next year, however, life always throws you curveballs, especially when you least expect them.
I was standing in my age group, (17 year old males), and watching our district escort pull out a name from the big glass bowl of female names. "Anise Lockflake!" She announced, and everyone looked around, for the girl, but, no surprise here, around 15 girls of 17 or older started volunteering like crazy.
Out of all the girls volunteering, one caught my eye in particular. She pushed past about 14 of the volunteers and then tackled the last one, then made her way up to the stage. She announced her name into the microphone, "Glimmer Belcourt. District 1's female tribute. You're welcome." Then she stepped aside, behind the district escort, as everyone clapped.
I clapped too, stunned by her extreme violence...(and her extreme beauty). Before I knew it, the district escort was calling out, "Ivory Belgien!"
No!
Not MY cousin!
Not him!
He's too young, too pure, too innocent for this!
He's not going into the Games, not today!"I VOLUNTEER!" I shouted as loud as I could, surprised no one else had volunteered yet. As the district escort called me up to the stage, I locked eyes with Cerulean Mercury, the 18 year old boy who was supposed to volunteer today. He had been pronounced the most skilled boy in the training academy, and picked to volunteer yesterday.
He mouthed, 'I was going to volunteer!' He looked angry, but I just rolled my eyes and pushed past him.
Yeah, right.
Who waits that long before volunteering?
———————————————————————————Dear Diary,
Today was the first day of training, and I met our allies: Clove and Cato from District 2 and Marina from District 4. Yes, there was also a male tribute from District 4, but he was only 12, and all five of us, including Glimmer, agreed not to include him in our alliance. I pitied him, but he would surely die in the bloodbath, and be a weak spot in our career group.
Clove is 15, but just about the deadliest 15 year old I have ever met. Heck, she's the deadliest person I've ever met period. Cato is a close second, though. She's fierce, confident, and specializes in knives. I still remember when I saw her for the first time, I considered not allying with her. But when she turned around, shot me a glare, and then threw a knife straight into the bullseye, I quickly changed my mind. She's warmed up to me slightly since we first met.
Cato is 18, and extremely deadly as well. He's massive and extremely muscular. Him and the guy from 11 both have huge biceps, and he specializes in swords...and pissing Clove off. Oh, I forgot to mention, Clove and Cato absolutely despise each other. Well, at least Clove despises Cato. I think Cato just enjoys flirting and annoying with her to piss her off, but I don't think he hates her.
Marina is 16, but there's nothing extraordinary about her. I mean, she's pretty skilled with a
bow and arrow, a trident, and knives, but nothing special. Clove definitely rivals her with knives; Glimmer has about the same amount of skill with a bow and arrow as she does. However, she's brave, like crazy brave. A little too brave....maybe. Bravery is almost never a bad thing, but then there's times when it could be a problem. Like in the Games.Glimmer is 17, my same age, and she's sweet as she could be. I mean, when she first volunteered, I remember making fun of her with my friends, not thinking she would last a second. But she's actually not half bad with a bow and arrow. She's definitely not a dumb blonde either. She's honestly amazing, and I'm really glad she's my district partner. Killing her will be extremely difficult...
