"This is definitely not how I wanted to spend my friday afternoon."
Thalia huffed as she crossed her arms over her chest. She stared at an enormous black wolf-like creature in front of her, the only thing separating her from it being a set of steel bars. His red eyes were terrifying, but she made sure not to show any fear; she had a feeling this beast could sense it.
"Listen, I think both of us have better things to do. So, want to fill me in on how to escape this place? No?" She smiled a little.
The beast tilted his head aside slightly. She observed his midnight black fur and strong physique, along with four large paws with pointy claws. This thing could tear me apart like a birthday present, she thought.
"You don't do much besides staring, do you?" Thalia sighed, raising her hand to brush her curly bangs aside, causing her silver charm bracelet to rattle.
The creature's ears instantly perked up and he stepped forward, looking at her in confusion. She raised her thick eyebrows and shook her hand, causing the bracelet to rattle again. He squealed a little and began wagging his tail, reminding her of a playful dog. "You like this? You know, you are kind of cute. Like a large fluffy pokemon."
Fifteen minutes later, her new furry friend and she were playing fetch. She kept throwing the bracelet and he kept carrying it back to her only to repeat the process again. Neither of them had better things to do anyway. She briefly wondered if almighty Hades knew he had a large ball of fluff for a pet instead of a terrifying monster that was supposed to tear its victims apart.
Because as far as she knew, the mythology suggested that Hades has a three-headed hellhound named Cerberus guarding the entrance to Tartarus where the Titans and other monsters reside. If anyone attempted to enter Tartarus or escape the Underworld, Cerberus would tear them apart. She now knew the mythology was not quite correct in its depiction of the Underworld, let alone Hades. At least physically, because he wasn't a ball of sunshine in both real and mythological version.
As she mindlessly threw the bracelet again, her thoughts drifted to her father, making her heart ache. He must have been worried sick and she was certain half of Philadelphia police department was searching for her. It was a benefit of having a parent who's a police investigator.
"Can I tell you a secret? I may look calm, but on the inside I'm freaking out. I mean, I don't remember anything prior to coming here, I have no idea where my phone is, and my father is probably minutes away from appearing here when a heart attack strikes him because he won't be able to find me."
The hellhound squealed and tried to push his big head through the bars, expecting her to throw her bracelet again. Sighing, Thalia stood up from her spot on the floor and walked up to it, picking it up again. Slipping her arm through the space between two bars, she swung the bracelet and threw it away, watching as the darkness of the corridor filled with dungeons swallowed it. The hellhound immediately ran after it happily.
"You are not supposed to be playing with Amon," she heard a male voice say after a few seconds before the servant from earlier showed up, throwing her bracelet up in the air before catching it again. Amon was disappointed.
"It's his fault, he made me do it." Thalia raised her hands in defence and looked at the large hellhound who only tilted his head aside like a confused puppy.
She snorted as the servant shot her an irritated glance, taking in his appearance quickly. His short brown hair was styled neatly, crystal blue eyes looking at her with slight curiosity, medieval clothing covering his body. He was young and attractive, and it dawned upon her the accent she heard in his voice was most definitely Irish.
