"You are late!"
"I am so sorry Emperor Belos, I was studying and lost track of time."
This wasn't true in the slightest, he had been training in secret with his new staff and palisman. He had mis-calculated how long it would take to change and get back to the castle. It looked as though Belos believed him, but didn't care, being late was offensive enough.
"Take your helmet off."
He knew what was coming, but he was long used to it now, he pulled the new helmet off and placed it down next to him. He looked at his uncle and stood where he was, expectedly his Great-Uncle's right fist turned to black goop and shot at him, he told himself not to flinch but his eyes closed before the impact anyway. The goops impact hit him square on his left side of the face and it knocked him off his feet.
He couldn't think for a couple seconds, his mind a gumble, but as the pain started his mind cleared enough that he knew he had to get on one knee and bow. He picked up his helmet, put it on, and bowed.
"I want what's best for you Hunter, and nothing good will come to you if you are late. Now, are you ready for your new assignment?"
"Yes Uncle, I am."
"Good, now go."
"Well Ian Loset, although we don't normally take transfer students in the middle of a term, the Plant Coven leader herself personally recommended you to me, so an exception can be made. Show me what you can do."
The Hexside principal sat in a theatre chair with a clipboard and was now waiting for Hunter to preform two spells to be accepted into the school. Undercover Hunter clearly could not come as himself, so he stood in front of Hieronymus Bump with some wrist makeup and regular teen clothes, and round rimed glasses just in case. He hoped his bruised face did not deter the school principal.
He took a deep breath and secretly dipped his pointer finger tip in illumination cream and hoped the two concealed glyphs he had learned from the human were ready. His finger now illuminated he quickly drew a circle in the air and opened his fist which had the fire glyph and a blast of fire erupted from the paper, and then again with the ice glyph which shot a pretty large icicle at the wall he was pointing. He quickly wiped his finger off and only could hope Bump hadn't seen through his trick.
Confidently he ask, "So, how did I do Sir?"
"Very well," Bump stood up and held out a pamphlet, "Welcome to Hexside School of Magic and Demonics."
Relief went over the 16 year old, and less than 24 hour later he was standing in front of the principal once again, but this time in a Hexside uniform with light-grey sleeves and he held his cardinal staff.
"What track would you like Ian?"
He really had no choice, the track that required the least amount of spell circles was Potions, and if he was going to pass as a Witch with magic that would have to be the class he takes.
"Potions track sir."
"Very well," Principal Bump cast a spell circle and the light grey of Hunters uniform turned a beigish-yellow, "here is your schedule, if you are interested there are Grudgby tryouts after school today and there is a dance in three days, now go join your other 11th grade classmates."
Hunter felt a horrible combination of relief and dread. He had succeeded in infiltrating the magic school, and his mission was a fairly simple one, find out if the rumours are true that some students were not joining a single track and report his findings, but he felt very conflicted with this. These were just kids, of course some didn't have themselves figured out yet, if his magical disability and Belos hadn't decided his destiny for him he probably wouldn't know what to do with his life either, so ratting these kids out felt wrong.
