Ch. 13 You Got Her To Lie For You

*Nicole's POV*

"Okay, they need to go now." Dakota said entering my room.

"I thought you liked being on TV." I told her.

"Yeah, but I need to buy a dress for the dance, and they're blocking my car." She whined.

"Luke said this would happen. He said it would get crazy. Celebrities might have to put up with this, but I don't." I told her, leaving my room and walking downstairs to the lawn.

"Nicole! Nicole. Tell us about your weekend with Luke Hemmings. We only want the truth." Libby Lam said as she and her crew bombarded me with microphones.

"You don't want the truth. You want a story. You take a good, normal person and turn him into your own little reality show. You build him up into a big celebrity just so you can tear him down in public. Just so you can sell magazines and TV shows? That's really sick. And Luke Hemming is just one example. He's talented and successful. He has all the stuff lots of kids dream of having. But thanks to you, he's had to give up some of the best things in life. Freedom. Privacy. Honesty. So, congratulations, you've created a celebrity. But you have wrecked the human being inside. You should be ashamed of yourselves." I told them all, tears gathering in my eyes.

"Did you get that?" Libby asked the camera man, who nodded. Are you serious right now? Z"Nicole. Nicole, just one more question. In your opinion, who is Luke Hemmings, really?" She held the mic up to my face.

*LUKE's POV*

"Who is he? I don't know.?The Luke Hemmings you're all so obsessed with- I promise you, I never met him, band I wouldn't want to." Nicole told the paparazzi. Yes, I'm watching the interview in my house with Ashton.

"Didn't you say you liked her because she was so honest?" Ashton asked pausing the TV.

"Yeah." I sighed.

"Wow. Congratulations, Luke. You did it. You got her to lie for you." He said disappointedly.

"I didn't have a choice, okay?" I said.

"Oh. All right." He said, getting up from his chair and walking towards the door.

"Where are you going?" I asked. He turned and glared at me before speaking.

"To find my best friend, 'cause he's not the guy sitting here now." He said. What?

"Dude, what are you talking about?" I asked.

" 'I didn't have a choice.' Lately that's been your answer to everything, man." He told me.

"Really?"

"Yeah." He told me. "Your life, your choice, man. What do you want?"

-
I heard fake thunder rumbling as I walked on the movie set. I saw Peter Matthews sitting in his chair directing the scene.

"Cut! Guys, you nailed it. Perfect, guys. That was the one. That was perfect. Let's go one more time. Circle. Great take. Great... Luke!" He exclaimed when he saw me and i shook his hand."Buddy. Great news. You're in. Rehearsals start on Monday." He said.

"Actually, I'm not available." I told him.

"Not a problem. We'll change the date." He compromised.

"No. I came to say, you know, thanks for the offer, but if I have to lie to be in your little club, think I'll pass." I told him and walked away.

"Wow. Kid's got edge. Fire. I like that. And cue the rain!" I heard him yell.

-

"Okay. He's got two weeks between Oslo and London. We could make him available for the movie then." My dad told my mom as they were sitting out by the pool on their computers.

"That's tight. You know, he needs some downtime." She told him.

"Okay. All right." He muttered.

"How about after Tokyo, but before Melbourne?" She asked as I walked up.

"What's going on?" I asked.

"Hi, honey." My mom said.

"Hey." I responded.

"We're working the movie into your tour schedule." Dad told me and I sighed.

"I don't want to do the movie any more." I told them.

"Sweetie, don't be silly. Of course you do." Mom said. No, I don't.

"We're about to make the deal, bud." Dad told me.

"Well, it's too late. I've already passed." I explained to them. They looked shocked.

"Honey, that's not your decision." My mom said and I looked at her confused.

"Yes, it is." I told them. "I'm 17 years old. I just want to have fun and make music." I explained.

"Okay, okay. Hey. No worries. No worries. We'll handle it." Dad tried to help the situation, not that he was.

"No. No. It's time that I started managing my own life. So... You know what? You're fired." I said. I just fired my parents... Wow. They both looked stunned. "I'd really like for you to just be my parents from now on." I said and walked away.
