They find a tattoo artist who specialises in flowers – and Chan yearns for it; the language of flowers is made of thorns and he's far from fluent but these flowers will be his.

The tattoo artist smiles at Chan's request, sketches them first, and both Felix and Chan get a time slot for next week.

Tattooing doesn't hurt as much as he expects it to hurt; the process takes hours – and then he looks down at his body, past the lilac and the primroses and sees them.

Blue roses grow on his skin, one directly on his hip bone, one almost in the narrow of his waist, one on his upper thigh – they're connected by thorny vines and dark green and black leaves, and the blossoms are big, intricate, the leaves abundant and blue, blue, bluer than the blue primrose on his arm.

And he likes that, too.

Felix gets a sunflower on his shoulder blade.
