Hyunjin texts him: Why aren't you looking for your soulmate?

Chan texts back: ??

I'm sorry, you really don't have to answer, I don't know why I wrote that, Hyunjin backtracks.

And it's... well, Chan wants to answer him. He doesn't often talk about soulmates – only with Changbin. If this weren't the man he'd slept with and who'd offered him breakfast, Chan would gracefully change the topic and pretend Hyunjin hadn't asked. As it is, this is Hyunjin, over text messages. It's okay, Chan replies.

Hyunjin writes for a long time. It's usually the first thing people ask me, and you haven't asked yet.

My parents were soulmates, Chan writes. They were soulmates and when I was thirteen they broke up. It was messy. So I guess, to me, soulmates don't mean a lot. It's people, you know? Love can be a choice, too, and sharing a soul doesn't mean anything if you don't commit to it. And if one day I really meet my soulmate... well. I don't know what I'll do, honestly. I don't have a tattoo, Chan continues in a second message, as you may have noticed when you saw me naked, and I'm in no hurry to get one.

What if you know your soulmate? Or, if you think you met them?

I wish. But that's impossible, obviously.

Maybe, Hyunjin allows.

Chan decides not to question that. What about you? Though I understand if you'd rather not tell me.

Lately, I've been thinking about it more, I suppose, Hyunjin texts.

I get it, Chan answers. He doesn't get it.
